Cigar City Brewing’s Josh Brengle recently made a trip through Ybor City to meet Coppertail Brewing’s Casey Hughes in a match of wits that turned out some great beer. The duo’s minds thought up the next bottle release for Coppertail, an imperial stout dubbed “Sabotage.”
Coppertail Brewing, Tampa’s newest craft brewery, is now shipping beer.
Well, bottled beer, that is–kegged beer has been in bars and restaurants for a few months now.
Coppertail Brewing has been teasing tasting room guests for weeks with mockups of 12oz bottles. On the counter of the Ybor City brewery’s tasting room are six packs of bottles of Free Dive IPA and Unholy Trippel. These bottles were only models, until now.
Copprtail Brewing has a timeline and they are sticking to it. That timeline began with launching beer into distribution and now has progressed to opening a temporary tasting room during construction.

On a sunny and humid Florida evening in Ybor City, just as the sun is setting over nearby Tampa Bay, rays of fading light touched on an elusive creature housed in a warehouse off of 2nd Avenue. This creature has been rumored for a while, popping up at odd times to refresh tired Tampans with an emphasis on quality ingredients and outstanding beer. This creature is the stuff of legend and while it has reared its head occasionally, the Coppertail has now settled in and made Tampa its new home.
Coppertail Brewing, one of Tampa’s “when are you going to open?” breweries has published a rough calendar of their opening timeline. While the Copper Crew have learned that best laid plans don’t always materialize in the precise order desired, they have said they are working toward the following schedule:
Coppertail Brewing has worked hard to get the word out about their efforts south of Ybor City. These guys have been working hard to build their brewery and have shared many of those steps with their beer-loving public. The tastiest thing the guys do to get the word out is host pop-up tastings where the public is surprised to find the place is open and sharing beer one night.
