Cigar City Brewing announces changes for Hunahpu Day 2021

Today, Thursday, December 17th, Cigar City Brewing took to the internet to allude to changes in the format of the Tampa brewery’s 11-years-strong beer festival celebrating the release of Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout.

From Cigar City Brewing:

The planning and execution Hunahpu’s Day, our annual beer celebration and release of our mole-inspired Imperial Stout, has never been a proverbial walk in the park. From its humble origins as a small bottle release in our small brewery on Spruce Street, to its expansion into our parking lot and addition of guest taps from a few of our favorite brewers, to its most recent iteration involving nearly 200 breweries from around the world pouring their beers alongside our monolithic stout, each year has presented its challenges (let’s not even mention 2014). Whatever difficulties we’ve faced in previous years, we’ve always done everything we could to celebrate the release of Hunahpu’s with our friends and fans in the most epic way possible.

Since March, our Events and Marketing teams have played out multiple scenarios for Hunahpu’s Day 2021 based on changing local, state, national and international circumstances. As of December 2020, we have had to acknowledge that considering constantly changing circumstances, we are not able to properly plan for a beer festival in March 2021. But not all is grey and gloomy in the world of Hunahpu’s…

In 2021 we’re going to bring the focus of Hunahpu’s Day back to the release of this beloved beer, which means that we will be releasing the 2021 version of Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout in Tampa in March 2021, just as we have done for the last eleven years. The beer will be bottled alongside a barrel-aged variant helping to refocus the spotlight back on the recipe and ingredients that make this beer truly exceptional. Details on dates and pickup times will be announced in the coming weeks as we explore options regarding online sales and extended pickup windows. Keep an eye on our social media channels and on cigarcitybrewing.com for details on the release of 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout as they’re confirmed.

About Hunahpu’s Day
Initially released to celebrate CCB’s first anniversary in 2010, Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout has become one of craft beer’s most coveted beers, with thousands of beer devotees traveling to Tampa each March for Hunahpu’s one-day release. Hunahpu’s begins life as an 11.2% ABV Imperial Stout boasting strong notes of espresso and dark chocolate. After fermentation, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and cinnamon are blended with ancho, pasilla, and guajillo chile peppers and the beer is recirculated over these adjunct ingredients. The resulting beer finds the perfect balance between sweet milk chocolate flavors, spice-derived complexity, and a Scoville heat that’s slow building but never overwhelming. CCB Brewmaster Wayne Wambles named his mole-inspired beer after Hunahpu, one of the Hero Twins in Mayan mythology, as a nod to the beer’s Central American afflatus. Accolades followed immediately, resulting in appearances on RateBeer, Untappd, and BeerAdvocate lists of all-time highest rated beers in the world.
