Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing won international renown from their Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout, and the beer’s annual release has been a Tampa Bay tradition dating back to before Tampa Bay Beer Week was established. With COVID subsiding and several other events announced for Tampa Bay Beer Week 2023, Cigar City Brewing took to their newsletter and social media to announce the official date for Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout Release 2023.
Cigar City Brewing has also announced that their fan-favorite Marshal Zhukov Imperial Stout is also available now at the brewery.

Did Someone Say Stout Season?
It’s the time of year for our seasonal stout, Marshal Zukov available on draft and to-go. This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Opaque black in color, this beer presents with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee, and hints of blackstrap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and the beer finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso.
About Hunahpu’s Day
Initially released to celebrate CCB’s first anniversary in 2010, Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout has become one of craft beer’s most coveted beers, with thousands of beer devotees traveling to Tampa each March for Hunahpu’s one-day release. Hunahpu’s begins life as an 11.2% ABV Imperial Stout boasting strong notes of espresso and dark chocolate. After fermentation, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and cinnamon are blended with ancho, pasilla, and guajillo chile peppers and the beer is recirculated over these adjunct ingredients. The resulting beer finds the perfect balance between sweet milk chocolate flavors, spice-derived complexity, and a Scoville heat that’s slow building but never overwhelming. CCB Brewmaster Wayne Wambles named his mole-inspired beer after Hunahpu, one of the Hero Twins in Mayan mythology, as a nod to the beer’s Central American afflatus. Accolades followed immediately, resulting in appearances on RateBeer, Untappd, and BeerAdvocate lists of all-time highest rated beers in the world.
