Shortly after 8pm Saturday, fire crews responded to a call that the Tampa Yuengling Brewery, located at 11111 North 30th Street, was on fire.

About 8pm fire crews were called out to the Tampa brewery to put out a fire in the brewery’s storage building. The blaze was then declared a two-alarm fire, and about 60 firefighters were called to the scene. Once firefighters arrived, the blaze was contained within an hour.

Brewery employees were evacuated and none were injured by the fire. One Tampa firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The Tampa Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, no official word yet.

About Yuengling:

Yuengling Brewery is the oldest continuously-operating brewery in the United States. The brewery operations began in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and in 1999 word spread that the company would buy the aging Stroh brewery in Tampa. By 2001, the Yuengling family had purchased, re-outfitted, and rehired the staff and facilities of the North 30th Street brewery, a building that had seen four separate owners in its 40-year history. The aging building, now approaching 50 years in operation, was originally built by Schlitz Brewing in order to satisfy Southern markets and compete with the brewery and tasting room which would ultimately become Busch Gardens. Yuengling brewed 2.5 million barrels of beer in 2011. The brewery in Tampa makes contributions towards the overall Yuengling bottom line and is currently expanding. According to Yuengling’s website: “Our Tampa brewery is currently adding a new brew house. The Tampa facility is presently a 450 to 475 barrel brewery; the addition will bring the capacity to brew 675 barrels.”
