Florida Beer for Black Friday

Black Friday is rolling around once again, and 2020 is no different. For many beer enthusiasts, Black Friday is the day to forget that Anheuser-Busch InBev owns Goose Island Brewing as they release a few bottles of barrel-aged stout that draw attention away from Goose Island’s strategy the rest of the year – namely releasing forgettable beers on repeated BOGOs and working to take cooler and shelf space away from independent craft breweries.

This year, as local and neigh breweries could use more support in the wake of the global pandemic, here are some Floridian brewery releases to line up for, ensuring that your well-earned dollars go to support neighborhood businesses and community gathering places.

Magnanimous Brewing Leftovers

1. Magnanimous Brewing Leftovers Pecan Pie Ale (Tampa Heights) – One of Tampa Bay’s newest breweries has not let their foot off the accelerator on bottle releases since they opened in October. With Leftovers Pecan Pie Ale, expect a decadent dessert-inspired ale suitable for sharing. And with the addition of Ginger Beard Coffee at Magnanimous Brewing, the beer will be available for purchase as early as 7am on Friday morning.

From Magnanimous Brewing:

Last but certainly not least on the slate for this year’s #blackfriday extravaganza is a bonafide dessert in bottle form!
?Leftovers-11% Pecan Pie Ale brewed with Vanilla and an obscene amount(150lbs) of toasted Florida Pecans from our friends at Sheffield Pecan Company in Monticello, FL
?This definition of decadence will be available when #magnanimouscoffee powered by Ginger Beard Coffee opens Friday morning at 7am along with the other releases we’ve mentioned this week as well as some other surprises on draft!

2. Motorworks Brewing Frostbane Ale (Bradenton) – Motorworks Brewing of Bradenton is releasing their Frostbane Ale, a pastry stout with fruit and spice notes.

From Motorworks Brewing:
This rich, velvety behemoth of a pastry stout packs a full-bodied wallop of sweet heat. Intense black malt and bitter dark cacao flavors are balanced by notes of ripe blackberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, baking spices, and vanilla.

Deep Brewing Narcosis

3. Deep Brewing – Barrel-aged Narcosis Imperial Stout (Tallahassee) – Tallahassee’s Deep Brewing Company was recently a guest on the BeerWise podcast, and owner and brewer Ryan LaPete said he was especially excited for this release. Deep Brewing’s Narcosis Imperial Stout with no adjuncts, merely the flavor of the beer after a months-long nap inside a Four Roses Bourbon barrel. Ryan also mentioned that these releases go quick, so make sure you set your alarms.

From Deep Brewing:

? BLACK FRIDAY RELEASE ?
.
One of the silver linings of the decade that has been the year 2020 was TIME.
Time to pour into things that truly made a difference.
Towards the end of March, we spent a few days nursing two very dry ???? bourbon barrels back to health.
Two barrels that would become the 2020 residence of the best iteration of this spirit-laden 12.5% #imperialstout so far!
No adjuncts. Just beer, barrel, and time… BEAutiful in it simplicity and DRIPPING with the flavors of bittersweet cacao, burnt sugar, vanilla, and bourbon… the nose carries strong aromas of booze but drinks smooth and full without being too sweet. NARCOSIS IS BACK!
Bottles drop at 7AM Friday morning online, doors open @ NOON for our Black RyeDay Tap Takeover and featuring a special guest appearance by @tallymacshack

Tampa Bay Brewing Company Magic Imperial Stout

4. Tampa Bay Brewing Company – Magic Imperial Stout (Tampa Bay Westchase and Ybor City) While being released before Black Friday, the pastry stout collab between Tampa Bay Brewing Company, Hardywood Park Brewing, and Magnanimous Brewing is still a limited release, and not guaranteed to be available in large quantities, so some quick action may be required in order to score this limited imperial stout.

Ology Black Friday Release

5. Ology Brewing – Lost Pain Imperial Stout & Brett Blend Dynamic Fermentum (Tallahassee) This Tallahassee craft brewery has grown from being named Florida’s best new brewery in Beer Advocate Magazine’s 2018 list to their current state of three locations around Florida’s capital. Now, on Black Friday, the brewery is releasing two variants of their French-Toast-inspired imperial stout as well as new Brettanomyces version of their lauded Dynamic Fermentum.

From Ology Brewing:

8am Black Friday (11.27), we have three special bottles releasing on curbside.ologybrewing.com for curbside pickup and they will also release at Ology [Midtown] and [Power Mill] when doors open at 2pm!

Two of the bottles are a blend of two barrels (Old Fitzgerald and Willett Rye) from a collaboration we did with our good friends, Hidden Springs Ale Works. The third bottle is a sour bottle that is also a blend of two barrels – Dynamic Fermentum: Brett Blend.

Lost Pain (11.5% Barrel-Aged Stout)
The French call what we call French Toast – Lost Bread or Pain Perdu. The story goes… old stale bread (Pain) is “lost”, and they save the bread by making it into French Toast. We blended two barrels we brewed into with our friends, Hidden Springs, and after a 18months in barrel – we adjuncted the beer with Cinnamon, Vanilla, and Maple Syrup!
$17/375mL Bottle

Lost Pain with Coffee (11.5% Barrel-Aged Stout)
With half of the batch of Lost Pain, we added another ingredient – coffee beans from Lucky Goat for a full breakfast experience. Sweet, decadent, and perfect for sharing a dessert in a glass.
$17/375mL Bottle

Dynamic Fermentum: Brett Blend (7% Barrel-Aged American Sour Ale)
Our base Barrel-Aged, Mixed Culture, Bottle Conditioned American Sour Ale usually gets a fruit treatment… this time though, we loved where these two different isolated Brettanomyces cultures took the beers. So, we blended a barrel of Brett C and a barrel of Brett Drie for a culturally-complex experience! Tons of nice deep oak flavor – vanilla, spice, warm palate mouthfeel help the sharper Brett-driven flavors of ripe stone fruit, tropical juice, and leathery horse blanket balance really nicely. This is a super complex beer that has over 18 months in barrel and over a year in bottle!
$15/500mL Bottle
In addition to all of these big, bold beers that have been announced, keep an eye on many breweries known for surprises like Orlando’s Sideward Brewing with short-notice can releases and Tampa’s Angry Chair Brewing who has made vague allusions to Black Friday as a day “we hear breweries like to release stouts.”
Whatever beer you choose to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and beyond, we here at Florida Beer News wish you a happy and joyful holiday.
