While beer is an exciting beverage and industry, every now and again I like to look to similar industries for insights and information, and mead is so beer-adjacent that it was a natural selection. In this episode, I am joined by Matt and Debbie McDonough who will soon open Pye Road Meadworks in the Odessa area – north of Tampa.
In our interview, Matt and Debbie talk about their journey to opening day and their struggles as they work to get open. They discuss mead as a beverage and why they chose to open their meadery in Odessa. They also talk about what’s unique about Pye Road’s meads versus other meaderies in the U.S. and why these home-mead-makers decided to go pro despite the cult following the couple had as hobbyists.

About Pye Road Meadworks
Pye Road Meadworks is boutique Meadery in Odessa, Florida, a charming small community located 15 minutes north of Tampa International Airport. A true “mom and pop” winery, Matt and Debbie McDonough opened Pye Road in March of 2021 after almost two years of planning and construction with the goal of creating an upscale but casual spot featuring hand-crafted honey wines, sparkling session meads, and a top-notch selection of craft beers from national brewers on draft and to-go. Our space is casual cool, and we’ve got something on tap for everyone!
