Cigar City Brewing earns honors at USBTC

Press Release:

The United States Beer Tasting ChampionshipTM (USBTC) recently completed its 21st Winter Competition. A total of 562 beers from 146 breweries were examined across 15 different beer categories. Within each category, the USBTC determined both a Grand Champion and the best entry from each of six U.S. regions: 1) Northeast, 2) Mid-Atlantic/Southeast, 3) Midwest, 4) Rockies/Southwest, 5) California, and 6) Northwest/Pacific.

The USBTC takes a unique approach in that its competition is held in multiple stages. Sequential field trials are
conducted wherein judges evaluate beers and select the best to advance to subsequent rounds. This allows beers to be judged in relatively small flights while ensuring that the best beers are still determined through head-to-head competition.

All beers were tasted in blinded fashion and judged on a hedonic scale.

The USBTC recognizes that American brewers are continually establishing new beer styles and reviving interest in classic styles. As one way to acknowledge this, the USBTC devotes “pull-out” categories in each competition to styles that are currently emerging or being faithfully carried on. In our most recent event, Non-whiskey Barrel/Wood Aged Beer and “Bean” Beer were selected as the USBTC pull-out categories.

Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing won Grand Champion Status for:

Non-whiskey Aged Beer Leon Cigar City Brewing Company Tampa, FL

Barleywine Warmer Winter Winter Warmer Cigar City Brewing Company Tampa, FL

Scottish-Style Ale Big Sound Cigar City Brewing Company Tampa, FL

Bean Beer Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout Cigar City Brewing Company Tampa, FL

Out of 15 Grand Champion beer categories, Cigar City won four of those categories.

In addition to the Grand Champion beers, Marshal Zhukov and Good Gourd won the regional categories for Spice Beer and Imperial Stout, respectively.

3 Sons Brewing earns honors in Best Florida Beer Homebrew Competition

Press Release:

A Floridian specialty brewer’s World Cup, the Best Florida Beer Championship (BFBC) showcased thousands of craft beers and microbreweries from all parts of Florida this past weekend. Judges graded beers in two separate categories (Professional and Homebrew), with the homebrew competition broken into 28 sub-categories.

South Florida Brewer Corey Artanis of 3 Sons Brewing Co, based in Davie, FL, took gold medal honors in the Specialty Beer sub-category for his Morning Delight Specialty Ale, listed as a Cinnamon Roll Breakfast Stout. Though billed as a Breakfast Beer, it’s likely just as good any time of day that one might enjoy a Cinnamon Roll with coffee notes, caramel, and light frosting. The BFBC award is the first formal award in 3 Sons Brewing Co’s short history, but is not likely to be the last.

Corey Artanis and 3 Sons Brewing Co have recently hit the South Florida craft brewing scene, and have come out swinging for the fences. The Bourbon Barrel-aged Wee Heavy and seasonal Pumkin Spice Latte were favorites of the 2nd Annual South Florida Brewfest at Florida International University, and the PB Kiss (a peanut butter stout) and No Worries (a white chocolate macadamia nut brown ale) had people lining up all day at the Miami Beer Festival on February 1st.

Corey’s dedication to making great beers has earned 3 Sons a spot at the prestigious Hunahpu Beer Festival, which takes place in Tampa, FL on March 8th. Tickets for the event sold out in a matter of 2 hours, so those looking to sample some of South Florida’s finest craft brews should keep an eye on 3 Sons Brewing Co’s Facebook page, where they announce all public appearances.

Tampa A-List voters honor Southern Brewing and Tampa Bay Brewing Company

CityVoter, a website sponsoring “Best of” competitions in cities across the United States has had their eye on Tampa lately. The website has set up voting for a “Best of Tampa” list, and some local craft breweries have received accolades from CityVoter voters.

Tampa Bay Brewing Company has been voted “Best Brewpub” and “Best Greasy Spoon.” TBBC beat out other six other nominated pubs to earn the top spot in Tampa and five other nominees to win greasy spoon.

Southern Brewing won as best brewery over five other nominees to earn the spot as top brewery in Tampa.

Congratulations to these two local breweries for their accolades
