Grindhaus Brew Lab wants to be Clearwater’s next craft brewery

Robb Larson and Lisa Colburn brought their unique style of homebrew and barbecue store to Clearwater and now the couple are looking to take the next step: they are opening a craft brewery. The same team that produced “Battle of the Brewers” and “Brew and View” will put their creative muscle to use crafting beers at an onsite brewery. Grindhaus Brew Lab will open in 2016 and is seeking some support.

Like many craft breweries in the startup phase, Robb and Lisa are looking for some help from the craft beer community to get the doors of the brewery opened. They have turned to Indiegogo to help raise funds for opening day, and are offering some very generous rewards for help.

From Robb and Lisa:

In less than a year, HiFi Homebrew and BBQ Supply has become one of the most popular homebrew stores in Pinellas County. HiFi … [has] a reputation for being unique and thinking outside the box. Robb and Lisa wish to add to this success by creating a brewery on premise…

The brewery will be named “Grindhaus Brew Lab”, a reference to a style of cinema they are fans of. The brewery will be movie-themed.

Grindhaus Brew Lab will be a small neighborhood brewery for the central Pinellas County area focusing on high quality beers and housed inside of HiFi Homebrew and BBQ Supply.

Robb and Lisa will be joined by Tony Vincenti, an award winning homebrewer and craft beer expert who has assisted at HiFi Homebrew and BBQ Supply since its opening.

Grindhaus Brew lab plans to open in 2016.

Coppertop Brewing to open in South Florida

South Florida’s warm breezes and azure waters seem to be very welcoming, or at least one would think from the number of craft breweries in the planning stages. Experienced and award-winning brewer Matthew Cox has his hopper primed and hopes to open Coppertop Brewing as the second Boynton Beach craft brewery before year’s end.

According to an article in the Palm Beach Post, Cox will open Coppertop at a warehouse facility not far from Boynton Beach’s other craft brewery, Due South Brewing. The brewery will be situated at 151 Commerce Road in Boynton Beach, and will feature a tasting room.

Matt Cox is best known for his work guiding Big Bear Brewing Company of Coral Springs for the last 13 years. Coppertop is Cox’s first solo expedition, but if Big Bear’s beers are any indication, Coppertop has a tasty future.

Gainesville to get a new craft brewery

Gainesville has two craft breweries currently, and in the following months is going to get a third.

Gainesville’s newest brewery will be spearheaded by a former homebrewer and former associate director of the University of Florida’s Honors Program John Denny. Denny and his wife will run the new brewery, christened as First Magnitude Brewing Company, along with another couple according to an article in The Florida Alligator Magazine.

The name?

The name of the business is inspired by Florida’s first-magnitude springs, which pump water at more than 100 cubic feet per second. Denny said North Central Florida has more first-magnitude springs than anywhere else in the world.

According to the brewery’s Facebook page, First Magnitude has purchased a fifteen-barrel brewing system from Portland, Oregon, and plans to open around July 2014.

The brewery plans to open at 1104 South Main Street in Gainesville.
