Sideward Brewing is opening soon in Orlando’s Milk District

Brand New Brewery, Taproom, and Kitchen in Downtown Orlando’s Milk District

Sideward Brewing Company is a new brewery, taproom, and kitchen coming to downtown Orlando’s booming Milk District in March 2019. The Sideward team will serve inventive beer, cider, cold brew, and more in a 100 year old warehouse. As Head Brewer Garrett Ward puts it, “We’re gathering some old, some new, and some out of the ordinary ideas we think will really surprise our local beer drinkers. But in a good way.”

No newcomers to Orlando or the craft beer scene, the industry veterans have big goals: to help make Orlando a nationally-recognized craft beer destination. No small feat.

The Sideward Team is:

Garrett Ward – Head Brewer
Garrett is known for his signature King Diamond hat, as well as making some of Orlando’s best beer, creating award-winning recipes at both Red Cypress Brewery and Cask and Larder.

Mandy Protheroe – General Manager & Co-Founder
A former territory sales manager for Coppertail Brewery, she initially climbed the craft- beer ladder while at the world-renowned Redlight Redlight, where she enjoyed many years as bar manager.

Austin Ward – Manager & Co-Founder
Austin is best known for his many years in the service industries in Yosemite National Park and The Biltmore in Asheville, N.C. He’s returned home to Orlando to bring the highest level of genuine and skillful customer service.

Recipe development remains a fiercely kept secret, but subscribe to the newsletter at SidewardBrewing.com for a chance to encounter one of the few kegs that makes its way out into the sunshine.

Grindhaus Brew Lab

Grindhaus Brew Lab to open this weekend

The siren song of Pinellas County’s craft breweries is going to get a little louder this weekend with the opening of Grindhaus Brew Lab, an offshoot of HiFi Homebrew Supplies.

From the Grindhaus Brewery Blog:

Our doors open Saturday, December 17th. It’s been a long journey but we’re nearly there. After applying for our Federal Brewer’s Notice in mid-march we finally heard back from the TTB in early October. In the first week of November, after a couple of corrections, Grindhaus Brew Lab was granted Federal Approval. Wednesday before Thanksgiving our Temporary State Permit was in hand. This means we were able to start brewing!

Progress has been steady. The tap system is in, the finishing touches are being finalized, the state inspection was a success, and our first beers are carbonating.

Brewing began a few weeks back, and it’s both exciting and a little frightening. Twelve brews are already in the books!

Recipes are in place, and we’re opening with six we’re proud of.

For more information and a list of beers, see the full post.

Grindhaus Brew Lab is located at 1650 N Hercules Ave in Clearwater.  Keep an eye on social media for the exact opening time.

About Grindhaus Brew Lab
We are Grindhaus Brew Lab – a brewery in planning, set to open in Clearwater, FL in 2016. Grindhaus Brew Lab was hatched by longtime homebrewers and craft beer ambassadors Robb Larson and Lisa Colburn, along with friend and cohort Tony Vincenti. This same team brought HiFI Homebrew and BBQ Supply to life in 2015, and Grindhaus Brew Lab will be the brewery complement, located in the current HiFi brewhouse.

Our intent is to serve extremely small-batch, high quality brews. Our small system, paired with our entire homebrew store full of brewing ingredients, allows us to create brews that you will not find at a large scale brewery.

Jdub’s Brewery and Tap Room now open

Sarasota’s craft beer future is very bright. With several breweries building new facilities and a few new breweries opening their doors to the public, locals have increased their pour choices exponentially in 2013/2014. JDub’s Brewery looks to be Sarasota’s go-to local brewery, and their doors are now open to the public.

Brewery owner Jeremy Joerger posted on the brewery’s Facebook page:

JDub’s will open this Saturday [February 21st]! Brewery tour at 12pm with the taproom opening the same time. We’ll be serving up beers til 11pm (normal taproom closing time). Please come and check out JDub’s brewery…THANK YOU for stiicking with us!!!!

JDub’s tap room doors are now open to the public and will feature brewery tours every Saturday. JDub’s Brewery is located at 1215 Mango Road in Sarasota.

JDub’s will also be pouring beer at the Florida Brewers’ Guild Festival this Saturday in Tampa.

Cycle Brewing opens its doors

Cycle Brewing, in an online announcement Thursday, August 15th, announced that it has now opened its doors at 534 Central Avenue in Saint Petersburg. This was not a “grand opening” per se, but opening at a time ideal for the brewery.

As construction finished on the bar and installation of fermenters was wrapping up, Cycle brewer Doug Dozark decided to open doors and break in the new place by inviting all of Cycle’s Facebook friends to come see the new place:

Who’d like to join us for a beer at 5 o’clock tonight?!

For a pour of Cycle’s Freewheel Session IPA, Unicycle Motueka, Unicycle Wakatu, Fixie Session American IPA, Ryerish Red, and/or The Dude Porter, ride, walk, or bike to 534 Central Avenue in downtown Saint Petersburg.

Fair warning: Keep an eye on the meter, as parking does require a few quarters depending on the time of day.

Look for a grand opening fiesta in the future, as Cycle’s renowned barrel program may have a few offerings as well as a possible berliner weisse in the hopper. All is merely speculation at this point, hopefully to be cemented by a future announcement.
