Members of Tampa’s brewing community team up for Samiam
It is often said that brewing a beer is a lot like writing a song. Vocals, percussion, guitars, instruments, timing, and countless other ingredients are combined, dissected, recombined, and reinvented while forming the perfect formula for a music that expresses exactly what the artist envisioned. The same could be said for an excellent ale or lager: in order to illicit the best flavors, the brewer combines the exact amount of the precise ingredients he or she desires to make the best representation of the brewer’s art.
It is in the spirit that breweries and musicians collaborate, and it is this spirit that formed three new beers for Samiam, a punk band that has been playing, working, and touring since 1988.
Cigar City Cider’s cider guru Todd Strauss is stoked for the release of his Samiam project, Capsized Cider:
…being the luckiest guy in the world, I get to work with some really creative minds in the brewing industry. Which to me, making a cider and brewing a beer is like writing a song. There are so many layers to brewing, just like music.
I’ve been a Samiam fan since 1993, I jumped at the chance to make something for them.
Four breweries were involved in the making of three liquids: Cigar City Brewing, Cigar City Brewpub, Cigar City Cider, and 7venth Sun Brewery all teamed up on the project. Together they made two beers, dubbed Mud Hill Stout and Sunshine Ale, and a cider called Capsized Cider. All of these libations will be released on October 29th at The Bricks of Ybor in Ybor City, with bottles of Mud Hill Stout being released at the Cigar City Brewpub.
