Cigar City Cider & Mead joins forces with Crafted Meadery over pie

Press Release:

Crafted Artisan Meadery® today announced the release of Criminal KLP. This collaboration mead was developed with Tampa, Florida-based Cigar City Cider and Mead, a sister company of Cigar City Brewing. It will be available at Crafted’s tap room in Mogadore, Ohio, Cigar City Cider and Mead’s tasting room in Ybor City and also released for limited distribution.

Jared Gilbert, head mead maker for Cigar City, flew to Akron to work alongside Kent Waldeck of Crafted and his team. The recipe, a key lime pie inspired mead, was developed in the months leading up to the visit. Aiming to replicate the graham cracker crust and lime notes the mead was infused with over 400lbs of graham cracker, pecan, lime zest and key lime juice.

“Working on a collaboration like this is simply just an awesome way to learn from each other while at the same time producing something that is out of this world great,” said Crafted Owner Kent Waldeck. “The team at Cigar City is fantastic and we made some great friends along the way as well”, Waldeck continued. Justin Clark, Co-Founder of Cigar City Cider and Mead added, “I had some Crafted meads before I got to meet Kent, but after getting to hang out with him at Cajun Cafe’s Cider and Mead Fest I knew we could make something really cool together. It was really exciting for us to have Jared up to Ohio to work with Crafted, such a respected Meadery”.

Criminal KLP will only be available in Ohio, Florida, Indiana, Texas and Chicago.

We recently started canning our Hard Cider and look to expand our canned and bottled lineup soon. Whether you’re a mead or cider enthusiast already or looking to expand your palette beyond beer, we want to offer our customers a diverse selection of ciders and meads brewed with Florida grown ingredients and always 100% natural in the heart of historic Ybor City.

Cigar City Cider and Mead teases new hive picture

Cigar City Cider and Mead has caused waves since announcing that they will be getting a building of their own and a new home. After being hosted by Keel and Curley Winery since their inception, the cidery and meadery will be moving to the Ybor City Historic District, according to the location finder on a recent Facebook Post.

All the post said was “Vibes and Stuff,” but a City Council Hearing will take place on 23 January 2014 and more information should be forthcoming.

Members of Tampa’s brewing community team up for Samiam

It is often said that brewing a beer is a lot like writing a song. Vocals, percussion, guitars, instruments, timing, and countless other ingredients are combined, dissected, recombined, and reinvented while forming the perfect formula for a music that expresses exactly what the artist envisioned. The same could be said for an excellent ale or lager: in order to illicit the best flavors, the brewer combines the exact amount of the precise ingredients he or she desires to make the best representation of the brewer’s art.

It is in the spirit that breweries and musicians collaborate, and it is this spirit that formed three new beers for Samiam, a punk band that has been playing, working, and touring since 1988.

Cigar City Cider’s cider guru Todd Strauss is stoked for the release of his Samiam project, Capsized Cider:

…being the luckiest guy in the world, I get to work with some really creative minds in the brewing industry. Which to me, making a cider and brewing a beer is like writing a song. There are so many layers to brewing, just like music.

I’ve been a Samiam fan since 1993, I jumped at the chance to make something for them.

Four breweries were involved in the making of three liquids: Cigar City Brewing, Cigar City Brewpub, Cigar City Cider, and 7venth Sun Brewery all teamed up on the project. Together they made two beers, dubbed Mud Hill Stout and Sunshine Ale, and a cider called Capsized Cider. All of these libations will be released on October 29th at The Bricks of Ybor in Ybor City, with bottles of Mud Hill Stout being released at the Cigar City Brewpub.

Cigar City Cider releases Peach InCider

Tampa- Cigar City Cider and Mead announced the release of the newest cider to their lineup: Peach InCider.

Peach InCider is a semi-sweet cider balanced with a hint of honey…
The yeast used for this has subtle notes of nectarine and tangerine.

Cigar City Cider and Mead suggests pairing this mead with grilled chicken, hearty fish (like salmon), caramelized onions, sharp cheddar cheeses, or field greens with a dijon based vinaigrette.

Peach InCider marks the fifth variety of cider that CCCM has released. The company, an offshoot of Cigar City Brewing, began with a hard cider, followed by a toppel cider, and most recently Fight the Power Sour Apple Cider.
