Cigar City Brewpub closes its doors

Cigar City Brewing’s Northdale brewpub, The Cigar City Brewpub, opened its doors in April of 2013 and has been a staple of great beer and a menu driven by people who care about well-crafted food.  It has been in the hands of great brewers since opening, and the current draft list has been brewed by Nick Streeter, Cigar City Brewing brewer who joined the company in 2013.  Current Chef Gerry Malynowsky has added and revamped the menu to its current state of old classics and new dishes.

The brewpub abruptly announced its closing via Facebook on December 30th.

From the Cigar City Brewpub:

Farewell and thank you to our Northdale and Carrollwood customers. We are currently scouting new locations and plan to reappear in 2017. Check our Facebook page for updates.
We will continue normal operating hours until Sunday, January 1st at 10PM.

Cigar City Brewpub partner Toni Derby confirmed that the Brewpub is looking for a new home and a smaller space with no further details on location or re-opening date.

About the Cigar City Brewpub
The Cigar City Brewpub opened its doors in 2013 and established itself on the menu of chef Nicolay Adinaguev and the beers of brewer Tim Ogden.  Combined with the service and the praise of its patrons, the Brewpub hosted countless functions for Cigar City Brewing and the local beer community.  When Ogden departed, he was followed by brewer Matt Tucker, and when Tucker left, he was followed by brewer Nick Streeter; the Brewpub has always been in good hands and awash in great beer.

The sudden closing marks an end to this chapter of the Cigar City Brewpub with a promise that it will reopen in the near future.  As soon as information is available on the reopening, Florida Beer News will be elated to share it.

PLEASE NOTE- While the Brewpub is closing, Cigar City Brewing will continue operations and distribution as normal.

Cigar City Brewpub taps new and favorite flavors for Tampa Bay Beer Week

The Cigar City Brewpub brewer Tim Ogen took home three medals this weekend in the Best Florida Beer Competition. As busy as he has been both creatively and laboriously, it is no surprise that Ogden won medals, as he has been kicking out the liquid jams since the CCB Brewpub brought its system online. With added tanks in the pub, Ogden will be able to showcase more of his beer, but for now, Tampa Bay Beer Week is providing Ogden with quite a creative canvas.

Here is the CCB Brewpub‘s contribution to Tampa Bay Beer Week:

Cigar City Brewpub to host next Fruit in the Room event

Tampa- One of Cigar City Brewing’s most lauded events of their early brewing life will make its triumphant return after a 30-month hiatus.

Fruit in the Room, an event where the brewery pours nothing but fruit and fruit treatments of beers, will be back on Tuesday, January 28th, 2014. This time around, Fruit in the Room will be hosted by the Cigar City Brewpub in Northdale, with only the date being released so far.

The previous incarnation of Fruit in the Room saw Cigar City bring in fruited beers from around the U.S.A, including beers not distributed in Florida. Beloved beers like New Glarus’s Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart, R.J. Rocker’s Son of a Peach, and the then-unavailable New Belgium Eric’s Ale. The event also included fruited CCB beers and fruited versions of Tampa and Florida beers like Saint Somewhere’s Saison Athene aged on lemon leaves as well as numerous Jai Alai IPA and Maduro Brown Ale treatments.

Shortly after its last appearance, Fruit in the Room went on a temporary vacation as Cigar City Brewing began major expansions to the brewery and its Tampa location.

No word yet on ticket information, logistics of the brewpub hosting, or tap lists.

Funky Buddha Brewery

Funky Buddha and Cigar City Brewpub collaborate

The Miami Dolphins are in town to do battle with their intrastate rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampans are emerging to see the game that they hope will be the Buccaneers’ best chance to break their losing streak. South Floridians made the drive up to Tampa to watch what they hope will be the re-establishment of their Dolphins. The folks from Funky Buddha Brewery made the trek to Tampa and like rolling stones, they gathered no moss. Instead, the funky bunch drove right up Dale Mabry Highway and over to the Cigar City Brewpub and put together a beer with CCB brewpub brewer Tim Ogden.

When asked for details on the beer, Funky Buddha brewer Ryan Sentz offered “Imperial oyster stout.”

To celebrate the oyster stout, the CCB Brewpub posted:

Funky Buddha Brewery is here today and brewing a collaboration! It’s going to be an oyster stout. Dig it?

To celebrate, we’re serving 2 oyster dishes starting at 4pm today.

First dish: 3 fresh Gulf oysters paired with 3 mignonette sauces: Paulina Pedrosa, Carrollwood Cougar, and a house cocktail sauce

Second dish: Smoked oyster, caper aioli served on puff pastry with pickled jalapeño

Cigar City Brewing will be amping up closer to game time at 5pm by putting several Funky Buddha Beers on tap in the CCB Tasting Room near 1 Buc Place, including Sweet Potato Casserole and Chocolate-Covered Cherry Porter.

About the football game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins kick off at 8:30pm tonight. This game marks only the tenth time that these two teams have met for regular season play. The Dolphins lead the series having won five of the nine meetings.

Cigar City Brewpub Gourds of Thunder, Saint Somewhere collaboration

The Cigar City Brewpub’s brewer Tim Ogden has been working on new beers for the Northdale brewpub since opening earlier this year. Tim’s newest projects received updates this week from the brewpub, and Tim has been keeping busy.

Gourds of Thunder:

What is Gourds of Thunder? We wanted to make a festive ale for the holidays that we could make sessions of starting before Halloween and continuing well past solstice. Something we could pair with ice cream and or chocolate, as well as with a traditional holiday meal, or just by itself. At roughly 6% abv, this is easily a sessionable beer, brewed with chocolate rye, dark chocolate, butternut squash, calabaza, coriander, allspice and other subtle spices, and fermented with the brewpubs house Belgian yeast.

Gourds of Thunder is bottled and currently available at the CCB Brewpub.

Saint Somewhere Collaboration:

Beelzebob, a berliner weiss with a metric ton per barrel of hibiscus flowers.
