Grindhaus Brew Lab

Grindhaus Brew Lab to open this weekend

The siren song of Pinellas County’s craft breweries is going to get a little louder this weekend with the opening of Grindhaus Brew Lab, an offshoot of HiFi Homebrew Supplies.

From the Grindhaus Brewery Blog:

Our doors open Saturday, December 17th. It’s been a long journey but we’re nearly there. After applying for our Federal Brewer’s Notice in mid-march we finally heard back from the TTB in early October. In the first week of November, after a couple of corrections, Grindhaus Brew Lab was granted Federal Approval. Wednesday before Thanksgiving our Temporary State Permit was in hand. This means we were able to start brewing!

Progress has been steady. The tap system is in, the finishing touches are being finalized, the state inspection was a success, and our first beers are carbonating.

Brewing began a few weeks back, and it’s both exciting and a little frightening. Twelve brews are already in the books!

Recipes are in place, and we’re opening with six we’re proud of.

For more information and a list of beers, see the full post.

Grindhaus Brew Lab is located at 1650 N Hercules Ave in Clearwater.  Keep an eye on social media for the exact opening time.

About Grindhaus Brew Lab
We are Grindhaus Brew Lab – a brewery in planning, set to open in Clearwater, FL in 2016. Grindhaus Brew Lab was hatched by longtime homebrewers and craft beer ambassadors Robb Larson and Lisa Colburn, along with friend and cohort Tony Vincenti. This same team brought HiFI Homebrew and BBQ Supply to life in 2015, and Grindhaus Brew Lab will be the brewery complement, located in the current HiFi brewhouse.

Our intent is to serve extremely small-batch, high quality brews. Our small system, paired with our entire homebrew store full of brewing ingredients, allows us to create brews that you will not find at a large scale brewery.

Pair O’ Dice Brewing announces the return of The Pit Boss Triple IPA

Press Release: Pair O’ Dice Brewing is excited to announce the return of The Pit Boss Triple IPA. This very limited imperial IPA will be released at the brewery on Friday, December 2nd on draft and this time in cans.

The Pit Boss Triple IPA is a big, juicy imperial IPA. Brewed with a blend of Amarillo, Apollo, Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops, this 11.5% ABV IPA uses more than 4 pounds of hops per barrel. It pours a hazy straw color from the copious amount of hops and delivers an enormous amount of citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavors followed by some resinous, dank goodness.

“I love IPAs and The Pit Boss Triple IPA is my masterpiece.” says Pair O’ Dice’s Head Brewer, Ken Rosenthal. “When I opened Pair O’ Dice Brewing 3 years ago I was inspired to bring fresh, hoppy, west coast style IPAs to Florida. As new hops varieties become available and the IPA market changes I’ve taken inspiration from the northeast as well. The Pit Boss Triple IPA blends the clean, hoppy, light bodied west coast imperial IPA with the juicy and fruity IPAs of New England. There is a distinct citrus and tropical fruit profile that I love about this beer. It tastes like hop candy and it’s a delicious damn imperial IPA.”

About Pair O’ Dice Brewing
When the craft beer scene was just emerging husband and wife team, Ken and Julia Rosenthal, would scour the country in search of their favorite brews. These travels led them to their specialty: aromatic and flavorful hop-forward West Coast-style ales. In 2013, the pair opened Clearwater’s first local microbrewery after perfecting their own recipes — all of which are designed from scratch and use Florida’s finest, naturally grown ingredients when possible. The name, Pair O’ Dice, is a play on the word “paradise” and it‘s how these native Floridians pay homage to their home state of Florida. Follow Pair O’ Dice Brewing on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay in-the-know or visit their website www.PairODiceBrewing.com for more company details. #GetAPair

Pair O Dice Brewing expands production with addition of canning line

Press Release: Pair O’ Dice Brewing has announced an expansion of their current facility, to include a new Wild Goose semi-automatic canning system that will allow them to produce 28-31 cans per minute. The system will be commissioned this week with fresh cans of Clearwater Honey Cream available to the public in the Tasting Room by Friday, August 5th.

“We had to earn our canning line,” said Pair O’ Dice Brewing Co-founder and Head Brewer Ken Rosenthal. “It’s just Julia and I. We don’t have big investors behind us telling us what to do, but that also means we don’t have access to a lot of extra cash flow for capital expenses. We’re excited to be able to expand our canning operations through the success of Pair O’ Dice. This investment will help us continue to produce the highest quality product we can.”

Pair O’ Dice Brewing began canning its award winning Clearwater Honey Cream and flagship Hop Bet Red IPA in 2015 to meet customer demand with the help of a mobile canner. Demand grew rapidly with can placements throughout Tampa Bay in major supermarkets and retailers such as Winn Dixie, Publix, Whole Foods, Total Wine, and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.

The new canning system will allow Pair O’ Dice Brewing to improve its packaging process and quality. It will also give Pair O’ Dice the flexibility to can seasonal and limited release beers in the future.

Pair O’ Dice Brewing is known for its award-winning, balanced IPAs and ales brewed with local ingredients. These beers frequently rely on the use of difficult to source hops and fresh ingredients sourced exclusively in Florida, such as strawberries from Plant City and orange blossom honey from Haines City. Their beers are currently distributed in Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, and Collier counties.

Sea Dog Brewing has four new beers for the month of April

Press Release: Sea Dog Brewing Company of Clearwater is pouring four new beers for the month of April.

The newly released Shipyard Blood Orange Belgian Wit (5.1 % ABV) is a refreshing citrus brew with a traditional cloudy appearance. Beer connoisseurs will detect light notes of coriander, and the tang of blood orange. Baker added Florida Sweet Orange peels to make the aroma immediately apparent upon the first sip. Blood Orange is the first Shipyard beer to be bottled in Florida, and is brewed at the Sea Dog Brewery in Clearwater. On draft and in bottles now.

“50 Leaves of Grey ” Strong Belgian Ale (8.35% ABV) is a beautiful red-brown color, similar to hot tea. The brew has small notes of a traditional Belgian, but with a twist of bergamot added to the boil of the beer. This adds the taste of sweet orange and a floral bouquet. Idaho 7 Hops were used to complete the beer, giving it a tangy tropical and citrus taste with big notes of resiny pine and hints of black tea. Coming April 14th.

Sea Dog Brewing of Clearwater has four new brews to share this February

Sea Dog Brewing Company of Clearwater is abuzz with new beers. The brewpub works to release several new beers each month, and February looks to exceed expectations.

From Sea Dog Clearwater:

Making it’s debut on February 4 is the Açaí Hefeweizen (5.1% ABV). This ale is smooth and full of flavor, as it is infused with Açaí berries and finishes with mouth-watering chocolate notes. The German yeast present in this brew provides banana esters, playing on chocolate covered bananas in beer form.

On February 11, Sea Dog will be introducing the S’mores Stout (5.8% ABV). One sip of this beer will transport you to a warm camp fire on a chilly night. Rich chocolate, cinnamon graham crackers and gooey marshmallow make up this dessert-inspired beer.

The Peach Habanero Sour (4.8% ABV) makes it’s first appearance on February 18. Sure to warm you up and satisfy your sweet tooth in equal measure, this ale was soured with lactobacillus in the kettle and finished off with Habanero peppers and peaches.

Last but certainly not least, February 25 brings the Pineapple IPA (6.4% ABV) center stage. Kohatu hops give this IPA it’s tantalizing aroma. Think tropical fruits and pineapple, giving way to a slight bitterness that is balanced by sweet fruit tones.

Grindhaus Brew Lab wants to be Clearwater’s next craft brewery

Robb Larson and Lisa Colburn brought their unique style of homebrew and barbecue store to Clearwater and now the couple are looking to take the next step: they are opening a craft brewery. The same team that produced “Battle of the Brewers” and “Brew and View” will put their creative muscle to use crafting beers at an onsite brewery. Grindhaus Brew Lab will open in 2016 and is seeking some support.

Like many craft breweries in the startup phase, Robb and Lisa are looking for some help from the craft beer community to get the doors of the brewery opened. They have turned to Indiegogo to help raise funds for opening day, and are offering some very generous rewards for help.

From Robb and Lisa:

In less than a year, HiFi Homebrew and BBQ Supply has become one of the most popular homebrew stores in Pinellas County. HiFi … [has] a reputation for being unique and thinking outside the box. Robb and Lisa wish to add to this success by creating a brewery on premise…

The brewery will be named “Grindhaus Brew Lab”, a reference to a style of cinema they are fans of. The brewery will be movie-themed.

Grindhaus Brew Lab will be a small neighborhood brewery for the central Pinellas County area focusing on high quality beers and housed inside of HiFi Homebrew and BBQ Supply.

Robb and Lisa will be joined by Tony Vincenti, an award winning homebrewer and craft beer expert who has assisted at HiFi Homebrew and BBQ Supply since its opening.

Grindhaus Brew lab plans to open in 2016.
