Sea Dog Brewery Clearwater has a few surprises on tap this fall

Press Release:

Sea Dog Brewing Co Clearwater’s Master Brewer, Robert Baker, is known for his creative use of food-inspired brew and he’s just announced his Fall line-up. Most recently, his Shipyard Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout was chosen as one of 2015’s Epcot Food & Wine Festival featured drafts, proceeding his Maple Bacon Stout, featured in 2014. With 15 taps open daily, 7 are national brands and 8 are Bobby Brewer exclusives.

A few sweet-inspirations on Bobby Brewer’s tap this Fall include:

Chocolate Cherry Custard Milk Stout: 6.6% ABV | 32 IBUs
Dessert never tasted so good! Full bodied milk stout with strong chocolate and cherries up front with the creaminess of custard on the back. It will satisfy that sweet tooth!

Trick ‘R Treater: 6.7% ABV | 25 IBUs
This Reese’s Peanut Butter Brown Ale has a sweet nose of chocolate and peanut butter upfront, with a creamy body and hint of sweetness on the finish. As a medium body nut brown, it has the right balance of peanut butter and chocolate.

Danube Imperial Brown Ale: 8.1% ABV | 19 IBUs
Named after a Hungarian river, this full-bodied Imperial Brown Ale has been aged on dark Hungarian oak which adds a smooth earthiness. Bold flavors attack the taste buds with chocolate and caramel melding with wood tones. Pinkies up!

“Straight from Compton” Hard Root Beer: 8.0% ABV | 15 IBUs
This mean-mugging ale is perfect in any frosty glass. Flavors of traditional old-fashioned root beer are what you will find. Licorice root, vanilla, brown sugar, and sarsaparilla are flavors that stand out the most. This brew has a nice creamy body as we added lactose back to mix. Don’t let this brew trick you with its easy drinking profile, it will take you out!

Sweet Potato Pie Brown Ale: 4.9% ABV | 22.8 IBUs
This beer has all the flavors of a fresh warm sweet potato pie. Upfront, you catch notes sweet potato, followed by spice. Lastly, it finishes like a warm crust. It is full of flavors yet easy to drink. The dryness of the brown ale balances all the sweet undertones of the sweet potato.

Sea Dog Clearwater is now pouring Tri Pepper India Pale Ale

TriPepper
From Sea Dog Clearwater:

8.3% ABV | 70 IBUs
Can you handle the heat? This three-pepper special is like none other. Jalapenos, habaneros, and poblano peppers make the perfect mix. Upfront, the spice gets right to you, yet returns to balance with sweetness. The addition of pineapple, cherries, and orange create this touch of sweetness. A must try, if you dare.

About Bobby the Brewer

A local Florida native to Safety Harbor, Bobby Baker’s education begins in science with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. His brewer training with Sea Dog began in Bangor, Maine in 2012. There he learned the old-world English style brewing of beer. Sea Dog’s brewing system is a Peter-Austin system, which was the first generation of microbreweries, and was developed by Mr. Austin himself in England in 1978. Upon learning the trade of brewing, his inspiration to develop new recipes for Sea Dog was insatiable. Now, Baker has the freedom to develop recipes on a weekly basis- some that stay in the tasting room & and some that venture into Sea Dog’s on-premise accounts. He oversees a 20-barrel brewing system at the Clearwater location, responsible for the distribution of beer all the way from Key West to Pensacola. Most of his inspiration comes from local chefs, and food inspired beer. Offering beers with such diverse flavor profiles, Baker enjoys knowing that his customers can always expect a complex -food driven beverage.

Sea Dog Clearwater releases Snicker Doodle Porter

Press Release:

Clearwater’s local Sea Dog / Shipyard brewer Bobby Baker releases his Snicker Doodle Porter, a medium to full body porter with a strong malty background while the brown sugar, cinnamon, and sweet coffee malt create a warm, bready finish. 7.7% ABV, and 35 IBU’s.

Like a fresh pot of coffee in the morning, the smell of fresh worth mixing in the kettle with hops is what gets Bobby Baker, Head Brewer of Sea Dog, out of bed in the morning. Bobby entered the brewery biz four years ago in Bangor, Maine, at the Sea Dog Brewing Company. Fast forward to 2015 and Baker is making heavy strides in Clearwater, Florida towards a national brew that proudly carries the Sea Dog name.

In a time for craft beer innovations, the concept of incorporating food pairings into the realms of beer drives, and separates, Baker’s techniques at Sea Dog Brewing from the rest. “Food inspires me the most. Beer is a wonderful thing, but beer paired correctly with a dish is heaven.” explains Baker. Using beer as a tool to enhance the flavors in a dish is a unique concept to this local Tampa Bay brewery. By introducing the use of savory flavors sip after sip, the focus on food becomes clear. Basil, rosemary, peppers and many other aromatic spices brew together to create an experience that far exceeds our standards for beer. “I want people to feel like they are ordering wine. Should I have steak or chicken with this “lemon blueberry basil Belgian” ale?”–Welcome to the fine dining world of beer.

Beyond the bar, taste buds find further exploration inside the Tasting Room at Sea Dog Brewing. Staying true to their local and cozy, vibe, the tasting room remains authentic to the Sea Dog brand. As you surround yourself with family and friends, your group will experience six to eight available brews that are exclusive to the tasting room. With food at the core of his inspiration, Baker describes the tasting room as a place that allows guests to savor and relish in handpicked Sea Dog brews. The beers you taste strive to better enhance the flavors of a dish; you will become a beer connoisseur by the end of your tasting. Forget the wine and expensive cocktails, a pack of Sea Dog Brewing is the next party-goer’s drink of choice.

Creating at least two new weekly brews helps beer enthusiasts stay satisfied and surprised at Sea Dog Brewing Company, especially with the help of Bobby’s brewing innovations in flavor. Opportunities for brew collaborations and seasonal flavors bring forth ever-changing brews for everyone to enjoy. With over 150 brews a year, new combinations for brews see no end. Flavors range from a rich Peanut Butter Chocolate Nut Brown Ale and Maple Brown Stout to seasonal flavors such as Watermelon IPA, Pina Colada Blonde and Blackberry Cobbler Saison. Pair O Dice Brewing needs help renaming Let It Rye’d

Clearwater’s Pair O Dice Brewing is in a conundrum. They love their Let It Rye’d ale, but someone else has claimed the copyright for it. So their decision has become one that will be chosen by $50,000- do they argue or do they invest the money in making the brewery run.

Here is the word directly from Pair O Dice Brewing:

In order to defend “Let it Rye’d” in our market, it would cost an estimated $50,000. And although we love this cleverly named brew, we’d rather spend the money on creating new beers, working on our canning line and paying our employees.

In the collaborative and the creative spirit of craft beer, Pair O Dice is turning lemons into lemoncello, and opening up the naming process to their creative fans.

How can you get in on the action?

Between now and August 16, 2015, we want you to create a new name for this beloved beer.

Here are the beer stats you’ll need to know:

An IPA brewed with rye. It showcases the dry and spicy characteristics of the rye and balances that with slightly sweet caramel malts and tropical and piney notes from the use of Mosaic hops. The aromas and flavors of each ingredient come together to create a balanced and satisfying medium bodied IPA.

Things to keep in mind:

Google a potential name before submitting it. Existing names will be automatically eliminated. Even phonetically similar names will be tossed. (Duh.)
We have a gambling theme to our brand and most of our beer names. Specifically a Craps theme. It’s not a deal-breaker if you don’t use the gambling theme in your name – just something to consider.
We’re edgy, but we’re not inappropriate. No pervs or potty-mouths. Suggestive names okay.

How to enter a name (choose one):

*Use THIS FORM and follow the very easy instructions.
*Tweet us @pairodicebrew with your name suggestion and hashtag #GetAPairName
*Email courtney@pairodicebrewing.com with the subject line: BEER NAME and the email body: the name of the beer. NOTHING MORE.
*Stop by our tap room for a pint and write down your suggestion. We have a collection box.

We’ll close the contest at the close of the brewery (7 p.m.) on Sunday, August 16.

Then what?

Our team at Pair O’ Dice will choose our top 5 favorites and post them on our social media profiles on Friday, August 21. The name that gets the most comments and likes across our different platforms will be the winner.* Final winner chosen on Monday, August 31.

We will announce the winner on Tuesday, September, 1 via our blog and social media profiles.

What winners get:

Clout among fellow beer nerds
The warm, fuzzy feeling associated with doing something cool
A Pair O’ Dice t-shirt, stickers, various swag items
The first pour of the beer you named

And that’s it!

We’re definitely sad to see Let It Rye’d retire, but we’re excited about a new name inspired by the people who love to drink it most: you all.
