Pair O Dice Brewing to release the Hop Streak series

Pair O’ Dice Brewing Co. is releasing a new limited beer series focused
on hop forward ales and lagers. The Hop Streak series is designed to allow Floridians to enjoy hop forward beers as they were intended to be enjoyed: Bright, Aromatic, Balanced, and FRESH. Every month Pair O’ Dice Brewing will release into distribution a new beer in the series. The high frequency, single batch, hop forward beer series encourages distributors, retailers, and consumers to drink hoppy beers at their freshest.

“Ken and I really enjoy hop forward beers. We brew them at Pair O’ Dice because we want to brew them, not because we have to brew them. IPAs are getting a bad rap these days and we want to remind the craft beer consumers why these hop forward beers became one of the top selling beer styles in America’s craft beer culture. They can be beautifully balanced, aromatic, and even refreshing when the beer is artfully designed and enjoyed fresh,” explains Pair O’ Dice Co-founder, Julia Rosenthal. “The Hop Streak series is a venue for us to show our passion for recipe creation and balancing those hop flavors
and aromas to make a truly beautiful beer.”

The Let It Rye’d IPA is the first beer in the series. Bursting with Mosaic hops with a well-rounded medium body that is accented by a nice, spicy, dry rye character, it weighs in at 7.4% ABV and 70 IBUs. The Let It Rye’d IPA was released to Tampa Bay distributors on January 15th and will be followed by The Pit Boss Triple IPA and The Stickman Double IPA in the coming months.

SeaDog Brewing Company

Sea Dog Brewing of Clearwater opens their new brewery

Thursday, April 10th, marked the beginning of not one, but two Pinellas County craft breweries. Shipyard’s sister brand, Sea Dog Brewing, opened the 20-barrel brewery at their Clearwater brewpub yesterday.

Shipyard owner Fred Forsley was on hand to mark this big new step into Florida for the Maine-based company. Thursday marked the second grand opening that this particular 20-barrel brewing system has seen: the system is the same one that was used at the Orlando Airport years ago, when Shipyard had a presence there.

Florida native Bobby Baker is taking the helm of the 20-bbl system with hopes of producing over 10,000 barrels of beer each year (with plans for possible expansion).

The Sea Dog Brewpub in Clearwater is located at 26200 US Highway 19 North.

Sea Dog of Clearwater now brewing big batches

The Sea Dog Brewpub of Clearwater announced that they would be removing some patio space and building a 20-barrel brewhouse in that space in order to accommodate demand for their beers.

As of Tuesday, April 1st, Sea Dog’s brewers are now brewing on their upgraded system.

Shipyard to expand Florida operations

Shipyard Brewing has announced intentions to become a Florida beer. Shipyard is presently based out of Portland, Maine with pubs in the Northeastern U.S. and two pubs in Central Florida (one in Orlando and one in Clearwater). The installation of a 20-barrel brewing system in the Clearwater pub marks a significant investment in Florida by the Maine company. The Sea Dog Pub began brewing on a 1.5 barrel brewing system once each month according to an article in Tampa’s Creative Loafing. Shipyard would like the expanded operation to be open by February.

Shipyard has made several previous forays into brewing fresh beer in the Florida market, opening a pub in the Orlando Airport and another pub called “The Shipyard Emporium” in Winter Park adjacent to Rollins College. Both of those facilities are now historical, having closed their doors after several years of brewing unique house beers.

Shipyard is probably best known as the maker of Sea Dog Blue Paw Wheat Ale, Monkey Fist IPA, and Pumpkinhead Ale. Shipyard says that they want to be considered a local brew in the Florida market.
