GrassLands Brewing begins construction

GrassLands Brewing company recently completed their campaign on CrowdBrewed, raising over $30,000 for their new brewery facility, and now the building begins!

From the GrassLands newsletter:

Riding on the high that was the successful close to our campaign ($34,145 raised via 243 backers), we kept it going with the start of construction on our building! Today we chat very briefly about all that goes into any construction project (which won’t do the concept of construction any justice because we’re only novices), as well as the plans for our overall building. Regardless of how long it took to get to this point and how long it’ll take before our house is ready to hold some parties, we’re really, really psyched about what’s to come!

Congratulations to GrassLands and good luck on these next steps.

J. Wakefield Brewing begins construction

Miami’s craft beer future is tremendous.

South Florida in general and Miami in particular has a large number of breweries in planning. Some are closer to opening than others, but by and large, Miami is ripe and ready to solidify itself as a mainstay of Florida craft beer.

With Wynwood Brewing expanding before one year in business, Concrete Beach Brewing under construction, Gravity BrewLab hoping to be open by summer time, and now J. Wakefield Brewing Company has begun converting a facility in Wynwood to their brewery.

The brewery started construction this week and announced on Facebook:

We have been fully approved and construction starts monday. By God’s grace it will be done in 8-10 weeks, also we take receipt of our equipment April 14th. It is that much closer people.

Darwin Brewing Company eyes an opening date

Since announcing their intentions to build a production brewery in Bradenton, Darwin Brewing Company has been building momentum and constructing their new home. Well, their new home took one giant step closer to reality yesterday when their brewhouse was delivered.

Darwin Brewing Company’s new home at 803 17th Avenue West in Bradeton will be a 6,000 square foot warehouse, playing host to both the brewery and its tasting room.

When asked about the new brewery by the Bradenton Herald, Darwin Brewing Company owner, chef Darwin Santa Maria said that he will have his brewing license next month and if all goes well, possibly open “while the Pirates fans are still in town.”

“It’s still our goal: maybe we get the end of spring training,” he said. “But we believe we’re going to make things right. Spring training is not going anywhere, so people are going to be seeing what we’re doing over here and get excited.”

Saltwater Brewery looking forward to being Delray Beach’s craft brewery

The nice folks from Saltwater Brewery have their eye set on becoming Delray Beach’s first microbrewery. They are currently in the construction phase of building their brewery and they took some time to answer a few questions about themselves, their beers, and the construction process.

Saltwater Brewery begins with lifelong friends coming together to share their mutual love of beer and the ocean. Bo Eaton, Chris Gove, and Peter Agardy realized that together their business skills bring together local beer knowledge, financial know-how, home brewing passion, and sales experience, and together they could form a great team making beer for the community where they all grew up. Along with head brewer Bill Taylor and apprentice brewer Dustin Jeffers, the Saltwater Team looks forward to the day where they will be a local craft beer destination in Palm Beach County.

While Saltwater’s core beers are still up in the air, to be determined by the needs, wants, and bar tabs of customers, the brewing staff anticipates six beers making the first run in the brewery: “an extra pale ale, an IPA, a DIPA, a milk stout, a Belgian blond, and a scotch ale.” Once the schedule is arranged and worked through, the team at Saltwater will brew beers on a 20-barrel brewing system made in Oregon City, Oregon, overseen by Taylor.

While Saltwater reiterated on Sunday through Facebook that “…we still can’t give a definite date for opening but we are working EVERYDAY here to get things right, it’s been a long road and we appreciate the support and following, and it pushes us to strive to get things right and open as soon as we can!!”

More details on Saltwater Brewing’s grand opening as it becomes available.

Coppertail Brewing making progress toward opening day

Coppertail Brewing Company in the Ybor City area has been generating buzz since they have poured at several festivals earlier in 2013. The brewery has recently posted some new information to their blog highlighting some key items in their history and development:

*First, Coppertail and staff are pushing hard towards opening in March of 2014.
*Second, the brewery has its federal brewer’s permit (a key step in becoming a legitimate brewery).
*Coppertail has received their wet-zoning from the Tampa City Council. This is no easy feat and nothing is a sure thing when going before the Tampa City Council, but this step ensures that the brewery can have a tasting room and pour their beers on site.
*Construction permits and the speed of the permitting process have made the idea of a March opening a stretch for Coppertail, but the tone of the post is optimistic:

“For a couple weeks we’ve been told we should be getting the permits any day now. We need to get started on that work immediately if we’re going to stay on schedule for a March opening. The people at the city have been kind and are working with us, but I just hadn’t realized how slow this process moves. Cross your fingers that we’ll get those permits in hand soon, or we won’t have anywhere to put all our brewing equipment when it arrives in late December.”

*Finally, the brewhouse fabricator in Germany has told Coppertail that the brewing equipment is almost finished, and they are flying overseas to see the equipment firsthand. The equipment is expected to arrive in late December.
