Hootie & the Blowfish to play concert celebrating the release of Hootie’s Homegrown Ale

Press Release: Hootie and the Blowfish will reunite for a concert in Tampa this September, in conjunction with the launch of the band’s custom craft beer, Hootie’s Homegrown Ale, at Publix grocery stores in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Hootie’s Homegrown Ale has been available for the past 18 months in draft form, but now the band’s brew is available in 12-ounce cans at select retailers in three southeastern states.

Hootie's Homegrown Ale

“Getting Hootie’s Homegrown Ale on grocery store shelves is a huge step for the evolution of our company,” said Kevin Lilly, founder of Rock Brothers Brewing.  “Having a retail giant like Publix embrace this brand shows the quality of our product and the interest in our band beer platform.”

As part of the three-state roll out, the band agreed to perform a special concert at the Mahaffey Theater, explained Mark Zenow of Cord Management, the firm that handles artist relations for Rock Brothers Brewing.

“This is a special opportunity to showcase the band’s beer and revisit the great songs that touched so many people,” Zenow said.

The concert will take place on September 17th and tickets to the 2,000-seat venue will be available via an online ticket giveaway hosted by Rock Brothers Brewing. For information, visit www.hootiecontest.com.

Rock Brothers Brewing has been creating craft beers for the past three years with bands like Have Gun Will Travel, JJ Grey & Mofro, Umphrey’s McGee, 311 and the newly added, Rebelution.  However, this marks the first major retail partnership for the brand and places Rock Brothers Brewing in highly-coveted retail space.

Hootie’s Homegrown Ale will also be available at Total Wine & More, The Brass Tap, World of Beer retail outlets, Luekens Liquors, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, Whole Foods and The Fresh Market.

Pair O Dice Brewing needs help renaming Let It Rye’d

Clearwater’s Pair O Dice Brewing is in a conundrum. They love their Let It Rye’d ale, but someone else has claimed the copyright for it. So their decision has become one that will be chosen by $50,000- do they argue or do they invest the money in making the brewery run.

Here is the word directly from Pair O Dice Brewing:

In order to defend “Let it Rye’d” in our market, it would cost an estimated $50,000. And although we love this cleverly named brew, we’d rather spend the money on creating new beers, working on our canning line and paying our employees.

In the collaborative and the creative spirit of craft beer, Pair O Dice is turning lemons into lemoncello, and opening up the naming process to their creative fans.

How can you get in on the action?

Between now and August 16, 2015, we want you to create a new name for this beloved beer.

Here are the beer stats you’ll need to know:

An IPA brewed with rye. It showcases the dry and spicy characteristics of the rye and balances that with slightly sweet caramel malts and tropical and piney notes from the use of Mosaic hops. The aromas and flavors of each ingredient come together to create a balanced and satisfying medium bodied IPA.

Things to keep in mind:

Google a potential name before submitting it. Existing names will be automatically eliminated. Even phonetically similar names will be tossed. (Duh.)
We have a gambling theme to our brand and most of our beer names. Specifically a Craps theme. It’s not a deal-breaker if you don’t use the gambling theme in your name – just something to consider.
We’re edgy, but we’re not inappropriate. No pervs or potty-mouths. Suggestive names okay.

How to enter a name (choose one):

*Use THIS FORM and follow the very easy instructions.
*Tweet us @pairodicebrew with your name suggestion and hashtag #GetAPairName
*Email courtney@pairodicebrewing.com with the subject line: BEER NAME and the email body: the name of the beer. NOTHING MORE.
*Stop by our tap room for a pint and write down your suggestion. We have a collection box.

We’ll close the contest at the close of the brewery (7 p.m.) on Sunday, August 16.

Then what?

Our team at Pair O’ Dice will choose our top 5 favorites and post them on our social media profiles on Friday, August 21. The name that gets the most comments and likes across our different platforms will be the winner.* Final winner chosen on Monday, August 31.

We will announce the winner on Tuesday, September, 1 via our blog and social media profiles.

What winners get:

Clout among fellow beer nerds
The warm, fuzzy feeling associated with doing something cool
A Pair O’ Dice t-shirt, stickers, various swag items
The first pour of the beer you named

And that’s it!

We’re definitely sad to see Let It Rye’d retire, but we’re excited about a new name inspired by the people who love to drink it most: you all.
