Dunedin House of Beer

Dunedin House of Beer is expanding operations

Press Release: Business is hopping for local craft brewer Dunedin House of Beer. The brewery, located at 927 Broadway in downtown Dunedin, recently purchased a 6,000-square-foot industrial space to house a new brewing system that will increase production fivefold in the coming year.

“Right now, I can’t make enough beer to satisfy the demand in our Dunedin taproom, let alone our other locations,” said Andy Polce, owner of Dunedin House of Beer. “This new system will increase production and will allow us to keep more beers on tap and also distribute to other bars around town.”

Construction is currently underway on the property and is expected to be complete at the end of January. Looking ahead, Polce plans to create a taproom experience in the new location with outdoor patio space on the Pinellas Trail.

“Our first priority is to increase production,” said Polce. “Once that’s complete, we’ll focus on building our beautiful new taproom. With all of the growth that’s happening in Dunedin, we’re thrilled to have three-quarters of an acre in the heart of this development. The land itself is hugely attractive and we’re excited to move into this bigger space.”

With more than enough room to grow, the brewery is also looking to lease out space in their new location. Potential tenants have already expressed interest in the space, including Grace Church of Dunedin. The church is currently meeting at Dunedin High School, but is looking for a space in the downtown area.

“This is an exciting time for Dunedin House of Beer and we are thrilled to work with them on their expansion,” said Patrick Fenech, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of SBA Lending for American Momentum Bank. “As a company, we believe in their brand and we look forward to a long-term business relationship.”

7venth Sun Brewery awarded medal at World Beer Cup

Press Release: Results came in a little more than a week ago for the eleventh World Beer Cup, hosted every two years and known as the most prestigious beer competition in the world. Over 200 judges gathered to taste nearly 6600 entries from 1907 breweries. Among Florida’s five winning breweries, 7venth Sun Brewery of Dunedin (and soon to be Tampa), took a silver medal for their Saison, La Fete, in the Session category. This award was the capstone after accumulating several awards in recent months, including a bronze for Vultures From the Past, a barrel-aged barley wine, at the annual Chicago hosted Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers. 7venth Sun also received best small brewery two years running in Florida’s Best of Florida Beer Championships as well as winning a gold medal for La Fete, a silver for Headbanger IPA and a gold and best small batch beer for Vultures From the Past.

The brewery hopes to ride this wave of success into the opening of their second location in Tampa before the end of the year. The 18,000 square foot warehouse will offer the opportunity to produce more beer as well as a second and larger tasting room and event space. Demolition is currently underway with build-out soon to follow. The team plans to continue to brew the same type and styles of beers it currently offers in Dunedin – IPAs, Saisons, Farmhouse and Old World Style beers – as well as a large expansion of their barrel-aged program. Details to come as the project progresses.

Congratulations to 7venth Sun on this latest award!

7venth Sun announces another Hunahpu Hangover Day

It is no secret that 7venth Sun is driving great beer forward in their Dunedin home and that, as they told Florida Beer News, the new Sun location in Seminole Heights is well on its way. This year, the annual day-after-Hunahpu Day celebration, dubbed Hunahpu Hangover Day, will have a brother.

This flyer from the 2nd annual Hunahpu Hangover Day captures the essence of the event.

From 7venth Sun (condensed, see original here):

You’ve been a believer, a supporter, and a lover of beer, and it’s only because of you that we get to do what we love most…

This year for Hangover Day, we thought we would christen our new location with a lot party in honor of you. Since we are still in the process of building out for the new facility, the parking lot will host the event. And because Dunedin is where it all started and what you made possible, we are also going to continue the tradition of Dunedin Hangover Day, too.

Thanks again for believing in what we do. It’s damned fun because we get to hang out with you while we drink and make beer.

Salud,

Devon and Justin, and the 7venth Sun Crew

Hunahpu Hangover Day will take place at the 7venth Sun Seminole Heights and 7venth Sun Dunedin locations on Sunday, March 13th 2016.

7venth Sun wants to take creativity as far as it will go in their new home

When news broke of Dunedin’s 7venth Sun Brewery opening a new and larger home in Seminole Heights, the rumor mill started speculating about what might be in store for the stalwart crew of the 7venth Sun. In mid-November, 7venth Sun co-owners Justin Stange and Devon Kreps detailed just what they had in mind for the brewery’s rise in one of Tampa’s most up-and-coming neighborhoods.

The new building itself is near the intersection of Nebraska and Sligh in Tampa just north of the Mermaid Tavern. This building is more than ten times the size of their Dunedin home, and once renovated will offer brewing staff a canvas to create exactly the type of beers they envisioned when the 7venth Sun rose in 2011. During and after the process, the Dunedin 7venth Sun will remain open–Kreps and Stange have no plans to close the Dunedin location.

What type of beers? “We are looking to set up a climate-controlled barrel cellar, stage more blends, and make more Belgian-style farmhouse ales.” Stange admits that most of the beers that have been released from the facility in Dunedin have been from a single barrel, that should change when the new place opens.

Opening day is in the works, but the building will need some renovation and repairs before construction, and then the brewery will introduce itself to the new building in phases.

Also included in this new home will be a Quality Assurance lab and an increased presence in distribution, including 7venth Sun cans available locally. Stange estimates that year one will raise their annual production eightfold.

“We remain dedicated to making the beers we love,” says Stange. “We’re not trying to take over the world or to be on every corner, just to raise the bar on creativity as high as we can.”

One of 7venth Sun's goals is to make more fruited wild ales and blended barrel-aged beers.
