Engine 15 Brewing is turning six and Chupacabra returns

Engine 15 Brewing of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach is celebrating six years of craft beers at the end of June. The brewery intends to have a party of special magnificence to celebrate.

In the same newsletter, Engine 15 gives a small update on the progress of their downtown location:

The Downtown location re-zoning is moving along. This Thursday, June 9th our application goes before the Planning Commission. The Planning commission will review the application and determine if the proposed use is consistent with the city’s 2030 Comprehensive plan. We believe it is and hopefully the Commission will agree and recommend for approval.

Later this month on June 21st our application is scheduled to be reviewed by Land Use and Zoning. Once both of these are reviewed and depending on their particular recommendations and comments, we will have more information on the progress. So wish us well and we will update everyone with more information later in the month.

Engine 15 Brewing is partnering with local distillery for barrel exchange

Barrel exchanges are growing increasingly popular in Florida, and Jacksonville’s Engine 15 Brewing is bringing this popular idea to The River City. In the exchange, a craft brewery will receive barrels from a distillery that has previously held a spirit. That barrel will then be used to age a beer from the brewery and sent back to the distillery to house a new round of spirit. The exchange then continues and tasteful products continue to emerge into local markets.

This partnership involves Engine 15 Brewing and Marlin & Barrel Distilling of Fernandina Beach. According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, the specific barrels that Engine 15 will receive previously held whiskeys. “Engine 15 will be able to repurpose them for their beers. The barrels will then be used to create a line of whiskey and beer barreled rums. Engine 15’s partnership with the distillery will also involve the production of AppleJack, a liquor made from barrel-aged apple brandy. Engine 15 and Marlin & Barrel will be the first to market AppleJack in the area.”

While this is great news for Engine 15 fans, the article also hints at other possible brewery/distillery partnerships in the ever-developing Jacksonville area, as well as a great picture tour of the new Engine 15 Brewing Company production facility.

Engine 15 Ciders & Meads is born

In a time when cider and mead are both growing categories in the world of adult beverages, another Florida craft brewery has joined the ranks of Cigar City Brewing and Green Bench Brewing Company as combination brewers and makers of honey wine & fermented apple elixir.

From the Engine 15 newsletter:

Engine 15 will begin production of ciders and meads at our downtown location. We will be initially producing a dry cider to be followed by flavored ciders. Mead will be available approximately 6-9 months after startup of operations due to its lengthy aging time.

We will have these products for sale in our Jax Beach taproom as well as in distribution here in the Jacksonville area with Champion Brands as the wholesaler. Cider will be available in 1/2, 1/6 Kegs for distribution and Draft and bottles here.

We are still awaiting final approval from the federal regulators before startup, we anticipate initial product available in February. Since Cider and Mead are technically wine we are required to have additional licensing.

Congratulations to Engine 15 for this next step in expanding their footprint.

Engine 15 to add arcade to taproom

That’s right. Engine 15 of Jacksonville has announced that soon there will be an “old-school” arcade as part of their taproom.

From the Engine 15 newsletter:

Welcome back to your childhood
We’ve cleared out space in the back of the brewery and what better to do with it than turn it into an old school arcade. Because you didn’t already love our tap room enough.

The first games to arrive will be Galaga, Defender, Space Invaders, Ms Pac-Man, Centipede and SkeeBall that – what for it – spits out FREE beer tickets! Seriously.

We have gotten A LOT of feedback through social media on other games you’d like to see and we do have room for a few more so we will tally the votes and surprise you with a few more.

The space is finished and the games are due to arrive at the end of the week so get ready to get your 80’s on! Feel free to start growing your Tom Selleck mustache and wing your hair.

Engine 15 announces lineup additions, new series of beers

Engine 15 has been keeping busy with their shiny new production facility in the La Villa area of Jacksonville. With the addition of so much new capacity, the Jacksonville Beach craft brewery has announced an entirely new lineup of beers and some forward-thinking on their brew schedule.

From the Engine 15 Brewsletter:

Things are certainly busy downtown! Our brewers have been working hard at our production brewery to create your favorite Engine 15 beers! We are concentrating on brewing operations while we continue to work the legal angles to bring you a biergarten at the La Villa location.

Downtown brewing is producing Double Nut Sack, (904) Weissguy, Route 90 Rye, and Old Battle Axe IPA. Shortly we will begin production of J’Ville Lager as well. While Nut Sack and Old Battle Axe are already distributed in bottles, next up is Route 90 Rye, available in bottles in a couple of weeks!

Introducing the Engine 15 “Frivolous and Ridiculous” line of beers! With all the room at La Villa we are dedicating space to crazy and delicious experiments! First up are a line of barrel soured beers the first of which will be Sour Sack (of course), Mmmm…tasty! Look for it in 750ML bottles and draft in the tap room in a couple months. We have a bunch of limited quantity “Frivolous and Ridiculous” beers coming your way in 2015 so stay tuned!
