Hourglass Brewery on new beers and changes

Hourglass Brewery of Longwood has been announcing changes and new beers for some time now.  Recently, the Orlando-area brewery posted some news and updates regarding their future in Longwood and upcoming beers.

Hourglass is growing! We are currently undergoing another phase of expansion and have recently landed and installed a new canning line. Initial brands in cans will be our Frankie Rock Bavarian Style Hefeweizen and Brown Beer, Brown Beer, What Do You See? English Style Brown Ale. Our Launch format will be 16 oz – 4 packs coming later this month!

We have also have our 8th bottle release available at the taproom and in distrobution. Stormgazer, a dark English style Barleywine aged in Rum barrels with lime and ginger is the first of three beers in a cocktail inspired series. 750 mL bottles are on sale now for $18.00

Additionally, our new 20 bbl Egg Oak Foeder has arrived in further development of our Wild and Sour beer program. This will be our primary home for fermentation of our house saison and other interesting variant wild ales. Be on the lookout for our first barrel fermented sour releases in the fall as well.

Finally, since a lot has been growing and changing, we are reorganizing brands under the umbrella of Hourglass Brewing. The Hourglass Brewery will remain at our original location, and future wild and sour releases will be released under the identity of “Sourglass Brewing”. We feel this will help delineate releases and make customers more aware of our product differences, and are relaunching our new branding and logo set with our recent release of Stormgazer – a dark English Barleywine aged in rum barrels with charred ginger and lime.

Props Brewery announces major expansion

Props Brewery and Grille in Fort Walton Beach has been a solid member of Florida’s craft beer community and holding down the fort in one of Florida’s expanding craft beer markets.  Well now the aviation-themed craft brewery is talking about some major changes, according to a recent article in the Northwest Florida Daily News.

According to the article, Props patrons can expect serious growth from the small brewery.  With the help of a $150,000 grant from the University of West Florida Office of Economic Development and Engagement, the brewery will add a production facility in a local business park.  The facility has a tentative “soft opening” date of September 2016, with a taproom possibly open in October.  The owners say that the new facility, which will expand their production fourfold, “should be up and running by sometime in October.”  The expansion will come with the expected addition of a canning line, which will allow Props to put their popular Blonde Bomber Blonde Ale and Flying Coffin IPA in 12-ounce cans.

Props Brewery opened in 2011 while Florida’s craft beer and breweries were still gaining momentum.  Fort Walton Beach is an expanding market with the number of breweries growing steadily, but not at the dizzying pace other areas of the state are seeing.

Props Brewery is currently located at 255 Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton Beach.

Pair O Dice Brewing expands production with addition of canning line

Press Release: Pair O’ Dice Brewing has announced an expansion of their current facility, to include a new Wild Goose semi-automatic canning system that will allow them to produce 28-31 cans per minute. The system will be commissioned this week with fresh cans of Clearwater Honey Cream available to the public in the Tasting Room by Friday, August 5th.

“We had to earn our canning line,” said Pair O’ Dice Brewing Co-founder and Head Brewer Ken Rosenthal. “It’s just Julia and I. We don’t have big investors behind us telling us what to do, but that also means we don’t have access to a lot of extra cash flow for capital expenses. We’re excited to be able to expand our canning operations through the success of Pair O’ Dice. This investment will help us continue to produce the highest quality product we can.”

Pair O’ Dice Brewing began canning its award winning Clearwater Honey Cream and flagship Hop Bet Red IPA in 2015 to meet customer demand with the help of a mobile canner. Demand grew rapidly with can placements throughout Tampa Bay in major supermarkets and retailers such as Winn Dixie, Publix, Whole Foods, Total Wine, and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.

The new canning system will allow Pair O’ Dice Brewing to improve its packaging process and quality. It will also give Pair O’ Dice the flexibility to can seasonal and limited release beers in the future.

Pair O’ Dice Brewing is known for its award-winning, balanced IPAs and ales brewed with local ingredients. These beers frequently rely on the use of difficult to source hops and fresh ingredients sourced exclusively in Florida, such as strawberries from Plant City and orange blossom honey from Haines City. Their beers are currently distributed in Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, and Collier counties.

Hourglass Brewery has two new beers and expansion news

The Hourglass Brewery of Longwood is definitely working to keep momentum going. The Orlando-area brewery has announced two new beer for April and some further talk on their expansion.

From The Hourglass Brewery Newsletter:

We will also be tapping a couple of NEW BEERS in April:

Beatrijs, a Belgian Dubbel ale, brewed with European Red Gooseberries. Gooseberries are a very popular fruit in Belgium and are prized for their natural tartness, similar in character to a currant. It is named for the legend of the nun Beatrijs, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Middle Dutch Literature.

Foreelzies, our new Strawberry Ale, brewed with 10 lbs per bbl of 100% fresh strawberries. The result is a refreshing wheat ale with a dry but distinct strawberry character.

Not to be outdone, Hourglass is now talking about a larger distribution footprint as well:

Speaking of new beer, the brewery expansion is well underway! If you’ve been in the taproom recently, you may have noticed the new (and HUGE) tanks that were recently installed. Because of the added production capacity, our beer is going out at an unprecedented volume! We have Hourglass beer being distributed across Florida.

Due South Brewing to nearly double in size

Press Release: Due South Brewing Co. has announced an expansion of their current facility, annexing 12,000 additional square feet of the adjacent bay. Combined, Due South will total over 27,000 square feet.

Open to the public since 2012, Due South has always had a production focus. The current tap room continues to shrink as the need for more brewing space grows. This expansion will allow for growth in both areas.

“We knew we would need more space, it just wasn’t available” states Mike Halker, founder and president of Due South. “Finally the opportunity presented itself and we were able to acquire the bay next to us. We’re certainly excited about continuing our relationship with the folks in Boynton and eventually expanding our brewing operations enough that we can supply all of Florida. We’ve got some thirsty friends on the west coast we haven’t been able to take care of yet.”

The new space will be used for an indoor beer garden, a large air conditioned tap room, a dedicated area for barrel aging and additional offices. There will also be a separate area for expansion of the new ‘Due South Sour Project’.

The architects are currently working on the layout and the new facility is expected to be open in early fall.

Green Bench Brewing Logo

Green Bench gets bigger and cannier

Saint Petersburg’s Green Bench Brewing Company has made a name for themselves in “The Burg,” and in their recent newsletter announced that they have made some changes, expansions, bottles, and cans for the beer drinking public in the Tampa Bay area.

From Green Bench Brewing’s newsletter:

At the end of October we completed an expansion of our brewing facility that included the additions of a new glycol chiller, three new 30 BBL fermenters, one 60 BBL brite tank, and most exciting of all one 90 hecotliter oak foeder. This essentially doubles our capacity and will allow us to both brew more of our core brand beers and expand our oak fermented farmhouse brands in both bottle and keg formats.

In the first quarter we’re going to release our next two Webb’s City Cellar Series beers simultaneously.

Webb’s City Cellar Series Lot 2 – 8.2% ABV
All patrons of Webb’s City could park for free in one of several numbered lots. Doc Webb would use the space to house some of his many attractions, including The Famous Flying Zacchinis. To help direct traffic and watch the cars each lot promised to have eyes in the sky at all times. Lot 2 is a Sour Stout, brewed with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus, aged in Four Roses Bourbon barrels on over a pound and a half per gallon of Blackberries and Blueberries for ten months.

Webb’s City Cellar Series Shopping Cart Cowboys – 5.3% ABV
Never passing up an opportunity to draw a crowd, Doc Webb dressed his staff into cowboy costumes to collect shopping carts in the parking lot, encouraging them all to lasso the carts from customers. Shopping Cart Cowboys is a Golden Sour Ale brewed with Lactobacillus and two strains of Brettanomyces that was aged in White Wine barrels with Grapefruit.

Lastly, we’ve been running several tests to prepare for year round branded sour beers that will eventually not be one off brands. The first branded sour beer will be released within the next couple of months:

Parallax – 7% ABV
Parallaxis, or “alteration,” refers to the noticeable difference in position, shape, and motion of objects from separate lines of sight. Our base Dark Sour, Wilbur, which is traditionally aged in wine barrels, has a rich and resolute, chocolate-like flavor, and a brilliantly balanced acidity. Parallax is a slight alteration of Wilbur, brewed with two strains of Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus, Parallax was aged in Bourbon barrels on over a pound per gallon of Raspberries.

Finally, the brewery is getting cannier:

As this new year kicks off, we’re also excited to announce that we’ll be releasing our first canned products into the Tampa Bay marketplace the week of January 11th. Be sure to look for our Sunshine City, Happy Hermit Pale and Green Bench IPA wherever great craft beer is sold!

Tampa Bay Brewing Company

Tampa Bay Brewing Company has been pushing their luck and their limits for a while now. As co-owner and brewer David Doble says, “it’s pretty amazing what we are getting from our ten-barrel brewpub system that was designed to crank out a lot less beer than it is.” That push has lead to a move offsite into a new facility in the Oldsmar area, right on the line of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. The new facility will have many of the touches that folks have come to know and love about Tampa Bay Brewing Company with much needed brewing space.

The new Tampa Bay Brewing Company (TBBC) production brewery and brewpub will bring some changes to the company. Most importantly, the new TBBC facility will alleviate much of the market shortage in core brands Old Elephant Foot IPA and Reef Donkey American Pale Ale. The brewery construction will see TBBC quadruple production and increase from their current 3,000 barrels annually to a whopping 12,000 barrels annually. This process does not take place in a vacuum however, and the new brewery will have windows and an open door that will allow visitors to see the beer-making process even without taking the official tour. “Tours will be offered, but the place will be ‘open'” according to TBBC Marketing Manager Mike Doble.

The new TBBC will also provide a similar food and beer experience that has become the hallmark of the Ybor City brewpub. Adjacent to the brewery will be a 320-seat pub equipped with a wood-fired pizza oven, draft beer, and fully-equipped patio (much like the Ybor location).

With all of this beer, TBBC is looking to new horizons in addition to filling the accounts they already have. The brewery will be able to slake the thirsty Tampa Bay area as well as Orange county and some of its touristy neighbors. Doble says that they have been able to get beer to Disney World and some of its outposts, but they are keenly aware of the temporary beer shortage while the new place is being built.

Before opening day hits, the new pub is already set to make history. July 1st, the first day to legally pour a Florida 64(oz growler), will be a landmark around the state and TBBC is no exception. With the new growler bill passing into law, Rep. Dana Young is going to be on hand at the Westchase location to pour TBBC’s first 64oz growler. After that, the new place has committed to a summer 2015 opening timeframe with a soft opening date of July 6th. Once growler history has been made, the brewery doors will be open permanently for the verses of this next chapter in TBBC history to be written.
