Tampa Bay Beer Week 2023 Podcast

About Tampa Bay Beer Week
Tampa Bay Beer Week is organized and operated by Tampa Bay Beer Week Inc., a 501c6 Not-for-profit organization. Our board consists of brewers, brewery owners, distributors, home brewers and independent beer enthusiasts.

The inaugural Tampa Bay Beer Week was established in 2012, and has since hosted thousands of events ranging from large-scale festivals to beer tastings, beer dinners and more. The success of TBBW has been a major factor in the continuing growth of the Tampa Bay area craft beer community. Tampa Bay Beer Week begins on the first Saturday of March and ends 8 days later. It has become the premier Beer Week destination in the Southeast. Our annual mid-year festival, Halfway There, is our major fundraising event.

Foeder for Thought 2016 details and taplist

Foeder for Thought, hosted by Green Bench Brewing Company, has been selling tickets for over a week now, and the taplist and details are now available, as are tickets.

From Green Bench Brewing:

Foeder for Thought is a celebration of oak fermentation. This is one of the most unique and intimate festivals during Tampa Bay Beer Week offering beer to sample from across the country. Tickets are on sale now. If you purchase tickets before the event they’re $60 (day of tickets, if available, are $70). Tickets are limited.

On Friday, March 11th (the day before Hunahpu’s Day 2016) from 5pm till close we’ll be offering unlimited samples of oak fermented craft beer on draft and in bottle format. We’ll have a food truck on site, and music spinning all night, featuring beers from: Jester King Brewery, Almanac Beer Co, New Belgium, Jolly Pumpkin, Fonta Flora, Side Project Brewing, Crooked Stave, Wicked Weed and many more! A schedule of special tapping times and a full list of beers will be available as we get closer to the event.

In addition, we’ll have owners and brewers from across the U.S. in attendance for special Q&A sessions each hour. Don’t miss out!

Foeder for Thought was an event built around education. Every year we see more and more locals appreciating Oak Fermented Farmhouse Ales/Wild/Sour brands and we like to think that events like Foeder for Thought are helping that cause. Each year we try and push the complexity of the tap list and the depth of the education aspect so that every year you’re learning something new. This year we’re setting up a live, hourly interview/Q&A with the owners/brewers of some of the featured breweries, hosted by Marco of The Craft Commander.

Below is a current (additions might be made in the coming days) list of beers and schedule for our 3rd Annual Foeder for Thought festival. Just like previous years there will be beers on tap in the brewery, beers on tap on a draft van, and a bottle station. These will be available from the start of the festival (5PM) until they run out. We’ve also included a schedule of our timed tappings throughout the night. These tappings are the highlighted beers of the festival that support the live interviews and Q&As with some of the best breweries in the world. Here’s how it’s going to work:
Show up at 5PM so that you can get your glass and start tasting some of the beers in the tasting room, draft van, and bottles. At 5:30 get ready to drink some Cantillon Gueze and Drei Fonteinen Oude Kriek. At 6 get some samples of Yazoo’s featured tappings and head to the stage in the beer garden, because at 6:15 we’ll be starting a live interview with Brandon Jones from Yazoo. He, and the other guest speakers, will give you a backstory of his brewery and brewing experience, the beers that he brought, and you’ll have an opportunity to ask him any questions about his beers that you’d like. This stops at 6:45 when we’ll announce where you can get the next highlighted tapping. At 7 we’ll tap Almanac’s beers, so get samples and head over to the stage to listen to Jessie Friedman discuss all things sour beer at Almanac in San Fran. At 8 we’ll be tapping a beautiful Jester King collab with Live Oak brewing called Foudreweizen, and we have brewer Sean Spiller available for the live interview/Q&A. At 9 you’ll be able to grab samples of Fonta Flora’s brands and at 9:15 listen my homie Todd Boera discuss what he’s making up in the mountains. At 10 we’ll be tapping Side Project’s Biere du Pays Blend 3, an incredible mixed culture Saison from one of my favorite producers in the country. Cory King will be on stage to talk all things Side Project. Lastly, at 11:30 we’re going to have Cantillon’s Rose de Gambrinus, which is a Framboise (Raspberry Lambic), and Drei Fonteinen’s Hommage (Lambic aged on Raspberries and Sour Cherries) and Drei Fonteinen’s Intense Red (Kriek).
The hope is to provide you all with some of the best beers in the world, and as much information and knowledge about these brands as possible. It would be impossible to do this if it weren’t for the extremely talented and knowledgable Marco of The Craft Commander. He’ll be conducting the interviews with our guests. You’re going to love him.
I hope to see you there.

Green Bench Brewing is adding a bottle release to Foeder for Thought

Green Bench Brewing Company has already worked out an event that will be liquid Christmas to those who love sour and wild ales. Now the Saint Petersburg brewery has just added the release of several bottles from their wood cellar to the already impressive Friday flavor array.

From Green Bench Brewing:

Perhaps the most exciting news for our Foeder for Thought event this Friday is the release of some new specialty bottles we’ve been working on. These will be available for purchase on Friday and will be part of our tasting at the event. In addition, the St. Peter’s Belgian Line will be available in distribution consistently, beginning in April of this year!

Here’s the breakdown:

Oak Fermented Sour Farmhouse Blend #1, 5.8%, 12BUs, Rye Saison blended with Golden Sour and aged on Nasturtium, Dainthus, Pink Sage Blossoms, and Marigolds, $12/bottle

Oak Fermented Sour Farmhouse Blend #2, 6.2%, 18BUs, Saison de Banc Vert blended with Golden Sour, dry hopped with Galaxy, Sorachi Ace, and Mosaic prior to being bottle conditioned on Brettanomyces, $12/bottle

Oak Fermented Sour Farmhouse Blend #3, 5.8%, 26BUs, Saison de Banc Noir blended with Golden Sour, aged on locally roasted coffee, vanilla, and bottle conditioned on Brettanomyces, $12/bottle

Webb’s City Cellar: Famous Flying Zacchinis, 8%, 43.5BUs, Dark Farmhouse Ale fermented in the foeder prior to being aged for a year in Apple Brandy Barrels on Wild Yeast before being blended with base Noir and bottle conditioned on Brettanomyces

St. Peter’s Belgian Line: Saison de Banc Vert, 6.5%, 25BUs, dry and crisp, our “Green Bench Saison” is packed with fruity esters similar to citrus peels and spicy, peppercorn-like phenols from our farmhouse yeast strain, and subtle oak complexities from our foeder, $6/bottle.

St. Peter’s Belgian Line: Saison de banc Noir, 6%, 43.5BUs, by combining the rustic, peppery flavors of our farmhouse yeast strain with the complex dark fruit notes of roasted wheat and dark Belgian candi syrups, we’ve created an intricately delicate “Black Saison” that contains notes of raisins, plum, dark grape, and peppercorns, $6/bottle.

St. Peter’s Belgian Line: Le Banc Belge, 7%, 83.7BUs, Belgian IPA fermented 100% in our oak foeder, $6/bottle

Green Bench Brewing to host second annual Foeder For Thought during TBBW

Tampa Bay Beer Week is looking to be another incredible week this year. Green Bench Brewing of Saint Petersburg is going to again be hosting their showcase of wood-fermented beers, Foeder For Thought.

From Green Bench:

Come taste the unique flavors of 100% Oak Fermented beers at Green Bench Brewing Company. For this 2nd Annual premier event, every beer on tap in our tasting room is fermented in Oak Foeders from Green Bench Brewing, Jolly Pumpkin, Crooked Stave, New Belgium, and more. In addition to foeder beers there will be oak sour beers pouring outside of the tasting room with food trucks, bands and local vendors on site all night. This will be our largest block party of the year!

The festivities start at 4pm and go until closing time. This year, we’re doing one standard ticket for $65 which will allow you access to unlimited pours of all foeder beers and oak aged sour beers all night long! With your ticket purchase you’ll receive a Foeder for Thought tasting glass as well.

For $75 you’ll get everything mentioned above plus a bottle of our Webb’s City Cellar Series release Famous Flying Zacchinis. This is a Dark Farmhouse ale that was fermented 100% in the foeder before being aged in Apple Brandy barrels with wild yeast for a year, prior to being conditioned in the bottle on Brettanomyces.

For a complete tap list, and to but tickets, see Green Bench’s event page.

Green Bench Brewing to host Foeder for Thought, a sour beer tasting

Tampa Bay Beer Week is a mere two weeks away, and the events are starting to come into focus.

The number of events vary depending on the brewery, but the awesomeness is the uniting factor: each brewery is trying to show Tampa Bay what they are about and the best beers that they produce.

In Saint Petersburg, Green Bench Brewing Company has the only oak foeder (fermentation vessel) in Florida, and they are going to take it for a (proverbial) ride. Green Bench is bringing in other beers fermented in oak in hopes of highlighting the flavors of oak fermented beers.

The name of the event is Foeder for Thought, and it will be on Friday March 7th from 4pm until 11pm at Green Bench. The brewery will be pouring beers from Anchorage, Crooked Stave, Allagash, Cigar City, 7venth Sun, and Green Bench.

For more information, see Green Bench’s event page. Green Bench is located at 1133 Baum Avenue North in Saint Petersburg.
