Grasslands Brewing Company announces first bottle release

Tallahassee is becoming a hotbed of craft beer activity with local breweries growing and planning in different parts of the city.  Grasslands Brewing Company of Tallahassee announced a milestone: their first bottle release.  This first bottle release will be limited, but the brewery staff is very excited about it.

From the GrassLands Brewing Company Newsletter:

What will the Fjolk see in your future?

You’re invited to join us this Sunday at 1pm for something truly special – our first bottle release! We’ve been sitting on this sucker for a while, just waiting for the right time to release it. Also, we’ve been waiting on labels to arrive and affix themselves to each of the 500+ 22oz bottles we have on hand. The labeling fairy was late.

Anyways, we’re putting Hail the Fjolk bottles up for $15 apiece, with no bottle limits and half off GBC swag with purchase!

What is What the Fjolk?

Our brewers, in true Norse practice, smoked their own grains to create this mythical monster of an imperial stout.  At 12.8% ABV, this stout is as strong as a Viking warrior yet sails smoothly across the palate with hints of hazelnut, dark fruits, and dark chocolate.

GrassLands Brewing is located at 603 W Gaines St in Tallahassee.  What the Fjolk will be released on Sunday, August 7th.  The trouble starts at 1pm.

GrassLands Brewing has an opening timeline

Grass Lands Brewing, Tallahassee’s up-and-coming craft brewery is getting closer to opening every day. Recently, the Tallahassee future brewery has given a few hints as to the proximity of opening day.

From the Grass Lands Brewing Newsletter:

The upcoming delivery of our 2.5 bbl pilot system is eagerly awaited – mainly because we’ll be able to bang out much bigger batches to bring to events and the like in the future.

We anticipate the taproom to be fully-functional by the middle of December, which positively feeds into our anticipated launch timeline of sometime in January 2015! We’ve got some cool things planned for a grand-opening, as well as several invite-only soft launches. Good things are on the menu, so to speak 🙂

Next up is some serious elbow grease we’ll be putting in following the general contracting clean-up in the taproom that’ll take place next week prior to Thanksgiving.

GrassLands is working hard to get their brewing operations and tasting room open and functional. Look for more news in the near future.

GrassLands Brewing begins construction

GrassLands Brewing company recently completed their campaign on CrowdBrewed, raising over $30,000 for their new brewery facility, and now the building begins!

From the GrassLands newsletter:

Riding on the high that was the successful close to our campaign ($34,145 raised via 243 backers), we kept it going with the start of construction on our building! Today we chat very briefly about all that goes into any construction project (which won’t do the concept of construction any justice because we’re only novices), as well as the plans for our overall building. Regardless of how long it took to get to this point and how long it’ll take before our house is ready to hold some parties, we’re really, really psyched about what’s to come!

Congratulations to GrassLands and good luck on these next steps.

Tallahassee brewery in-planning will join the newly revitalized Gaines Street District

GrassLands Brewing Company, a Tallahassee, FL brewery in-planning set to launch in Summer 2014, made its future site location public last week. GrassLands will call 603 West Gaines Street its home. As the first tenant in the building, GrassLands will initially operate in 5,000 sq/ft of space with room to expand as brewing capacity grows.

GrassLands Brewing Company is working with Architects Lewis & Whitlock to design the production floor and onsite taproom. Expected to launch with a 15-barrel production system and a 2-barrel pilot system, GrassLands will offer patrons a diverse selection of GrassLands beer for purchase at the taproom. The taproom itself will be complemented by a large, outdoor communal area with available seating and lounging space.

The brewery and taproom build-out will be part of an overall building makeover – transforming the existing warehouse space into the “Garages on Gaines” – meshing with the unique look and feel of the revitalized Gaines Street district. Construction is expected to begin next month.

Grasslands Brewing talks about their future lineup

Grasslands Brewing, one of Tallahassee’s breweries that’s currently in fermentation and anxiously awaiting the day that they open their doors, recently discussed their future lineup of beers in a blog post.

Over at Grasslands.com, brewery owner Gabe Grass discussed the four different series of beers that Grasslands will brew.

The four series will be:

*The Open Field Series- Amber Rye, IPA, Rye Saison, Imperial Amber & Coffee Stout. Quality and consistent ales that will be available year-round.

*The Wild Things Series- Sour beers like Flemish Reds and other sour beers. These will be limited-edition beers, available when these beers are ready.

*The Terra Series- sticking with their “Earth First Ales” motto, these are seasonal beers that will contain ingredients unique to Florida.

*The Stick Series- these are wood and barrel-aged beers. These beers will be available from time to time and will be headlined by Black Rose Immortal Imperial Stout.

Interesting ideas from this up-and-coming Tallahassee brewery.

Grasslands releases collaboration with Fermentation Lounge

Tallahassee- Last night saw the release of two beers brewed collaboratively between Tallahassee’s Fermentation Lounge and the Capital City’s up-and-coming Grasslands Brewing Company. Fermentation’s Robert Clark and Grasslands’ Gabe Grass teamed up to brew twenty gallons of a traditional Belgian Ale brewed with rye and oats. Then Fermentation Lounge took ten gallons and treated it with lemon zest and white peppercorns to highlight certain flavor components in the beer.

The beer was then released at the opening of Fermentation Lounge, 5pm on Wednesday.

Brewer Robert Clark has indicated that this collaborative beer will be the first in series that will showcase Tallahassee’s homebrewing talent as well as serving to spotlight some of Talahassee’s emerging breweries.
