Grasslands Brewing Company announces impending closure

In a rough span of time for Florida craft beer after the announcement of Red Cypress Brewery’s closure, Grasslands Brewing Company of Tallahassee announces that they will be closing and ceasing operations, effective July 15th, 2019.

From Grasslands Brewing Company:

We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has supported GrassLands since we first opened our doors in 2015. Your support, both direct and indirect, has meant the world to us and we feel like we’ve been an active part of both the Tallahassee community and greater craft beer industry since day 1. We’re so proud of the work our team has put in these past four years with the brewery’s “Craft. Community. Conservation.” mission at the forefront of every decision we’ve made. Additionally, our working family is comprised of some of the most amazing people we’ve ever met.

That being said, it is with a heavy heart that we’re announcing GrassLands’ permanent closure at 603 West Gaines Street on July 15. We’ll release information this week about events surrounding our closing, which will occur as a weekend-long sendoff party July 12th, 13th & 14th – as well as heavily discounted specials on beer & gear starting tomorrow July 9th. We want to convey our deepest gratitude to this community, our brewing industry friends (you know who you are) our amazing brewery family, and our investment families. Thank you for over four amazing years, Tallahassee – we look forward to toasting the next step with all of you over the next week and weekend.

Grasslands Brewing Company announces first bottle release

Tallahassee is becoming a hotbed of craft beer activity with local breweries growing and planning in different parts of the city.  Grasslands Brewing Company of Tallahassee announced a milestone: their first bottle release.  This first bottle release will be limited, but the brewery staff is very excited about it.

From the GrassLands Brewing Company Newsletter:

What will the Fjolk see in your future?

You’re invited to join us this Sunday at 1pm for something truly special – our first bottle release! We’ve been sitting on this sucker for a while, just waiting for the right time to release it. Also, we’ve been waiting on labels to arrive and affix themselves to each of the 500+ 22oz bottles we have on hand. The labeling fairy was late.

Anyways, we’re putting Hail the Fjolk bottles up for $15 apiece, with no bottle limits and half off GBC swag with purchase!

What is What the Fjolk?

Our brewers, in true Norse practice, smoked their own grains to create this mythical monster of an imperial stout.  At 12.8% ABV, this stout is as strong as a Viking warrior yet sails smoothly across the palate with hints of hazelnut, dark fruits, and dark chocolate.

GrassLands Brewing is located at 603 W Gaines St in Tallahassee.  What the Fjolk will be released on Sunday, August 7th.  The trouble starts at 1pm.

GrassLands Brewing has an opening timeline

Grass Lands Brewing, Tallahassee’s up-and-coming craft brewery is getting closer to opening every day. Recently, the Tallahassee future brewery has given a few hints as to the proximity of opening day.

From the Grass Lands Brewing Newsletter:

The upcoming delivery of our 2.5 bbl pilot system is eagerly awaited – mainly because we’ll be able to bang out much bigger batches to bring to events and the like in the future.

We anticipate the taproom to be fully-functional by the middle of December, which positively feeds into our anticipated launch timeline of sometime in January 2015! We’ve got some cool things planned for a grand-opening, as well as several invite-only soft launches. Good things are on the menu, so to speak 🙂

Next up is some serious elbow grease we’ll be putting in following the general contracting clean-up in the taproom that’ll take place next week prior to Thanksgiving.

GrassLands is working hard to get their brewing operations and tasting room open and functional. Look for more news in the near future.

Update on Grasslands/ Fermentation Lounge collab

After publishing the article yesterday on the Grasslands Brewing and Fermentation Lounge collaboration beer, Fermentation Lounge brewer Robert Clark emailed Florida Beer News with some further information on the collaboration.

We made 30 gallons of the beer at Ferm (Grasslands has no license). All thirty gallons are currently in our tanks behind the bar and undergoing the fermentation process. All thirty gallons are based on one of Grassland’s flagship brews Ryzein’ Sun Saison. The Ferm brew team will take 10 gallons (we have 10 and 20 gallon fermentors), and add a special treatment to it. I also tweaked the initial grain bill of that batch. 20 gallons will be left alone, so that people can get a “first taste” of Grasslands beer. We are calling it a collab, but I am trying to give the spotlight to Grasslands beer and allow him a chance to show off his brand.

Clark also says that he is trying to work with local homebrewers to showcase Tallahassee talents, and give them a chance to brew something special. Clark is also in talks to collaborate with Canopy Roads Brewing of Tallahassee, a brewery in planning.

Grasslands Brewing and Fermentation Lounge collaborate

Tallahassee- Grasslands Brewing Company, a brewery in planning in Tallahassee, and Fermentation Lounge, Tallahassee’s first, albeit very small, brewery are collaborating on a rye saison.

The beer itself is a rye saison, with 20 gallons being made on the brewing system at Fermentation Lounge. 10 gallons was given to Grasslands for a special treatment, to be announced at a later date.

Release date is Wednesday November 13, when the bar opens at 5pm.

About Fermentation Lounge:

Fermentation Lounge, or “The Ferm” as it’s known to locals, is Tallahassee’s first craft brewery. They make beers in very small batches, then the beer goes on draft at the bar on All Saints Street, and is usually gone within a matter of days, sometimes hours. The Ferm prides itself on making beers from fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. Brewer Robert Clark prefers to make beers that patrons will have an emotional reaction to.

About Grasslands Brewing:

The mission of GrassLands Brewing Company is to provide this great country (and ultimately the world) with uniquely crafted beers made with 100% natural malts, hops and adjuncts. GrassLands ales will use organic ingredients and recycled materials whenever and however possible in all facets of the brewery.

GrassLands Brewery is also committed to the environment and animal welfare. It will utilize environment-friendly and sustainability/conservation-focused business & operation practices where-ever and however possible. GrassLands Brewing Company’s slogan – Earth First Ales – represents our commitment to the conservation and sustainability of our environment and declining animal habitats, especially in the coastal regions of the southeast United States. To facilitate awareness of these issues, GrassLands will host regular events and will make annual donations to be reinvested into nonprofits that embody the GrassLands Brewing Company mission.
