Cigar City Brewing brings back Bourbon Barrel Hunahpu for 2021 release

While Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing announced in December that the celebrated beer release would return in 2021, they did not release specifics at that time.  Fast forward to January when more details come into focus, and it turns out 2021 will see the anticipated return of Bourbon Barrel-Aged Hunahpu in an all-online release format.

Here are the details for our annual release:

  • 750mL bottles of 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout and 500mL bottles of Bourbon Barrel-aged 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout will be offered by lottery beginning 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30. We are proud to partner with Oznr Craft Beverage Marketplace to facilitate the lottery and release of these beers.
  • Two separate lotteries will be taking place: one lottery will be for (2) 750 mL bottles of 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout, and the other lottery will be for (2) 750 mL bottles of 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout AND (2) 500 mL bottles of Bourbon Barrel-aged Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout. These are the only quantities in which 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout and Bourbon Barrel-aged Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout will be available.
  • Lottery sign-ups for (2) bottles of 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout will take place from 10 a.m. EST Saturday, Jan. 30 until 11:59 p.m. EST Friday, Feb 12. Lottery winners will be selected and notified on Saturday, Feb 13.
  • Lottery sign-ups for (2) bottles of 2021 Hunahpu’s and (2) Bourbon Barrel-aged Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout will take place from 10 a.m. EST Saturday, Jan. 30 until 11:59 p.m. EST Friday, Feb. 5. Lottery winners for Bourbon Barrel-aged Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout will be selected and notified on Saturday, Feb. 6.
  • Lottery entry will require entering your credit card information, but your card will only be charged if you are selected as a lottery winner. If you are selected, your card will automatically be charged.
  • NO REFUNDS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR LOTTERY WINNERS OF EITHER 2021 HUNAHPU’S IMPERIAL STOUT OR BOURBON BARREL-AGED HUNAHPU’S IMPERIAL STOUT. If you are selected as a lottery winner for both lotteries, you will be charged for all six bottles.
  • 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout and Bourbon Barrel-aged Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout pick-ups will take place between Friday, March 12 and Sunday, April 11.
  • All 2021 Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout bottle pick-ups will take place in-person at our Spruce Street Brewery in Tampa. We absolutely cannot ship bottles of beer.
  • Proxy pick-ups are permitted and will be facilitated through your Oznr account.

Cigar City Brewing announces new venue for Hunahpu’s Day

On the heels of the announcement that Cigar City Brewing will change the date of Hunahpu’s Day, comes the announcement of a new venue for the landmark Tampa Bay craft beer event.

Somewhat far down in a post that the brewery has a new partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL Team is the news of the new venue.

“Cigar City Brewing is proud to become the Official Craft Beer Partner of the Tampa Bay Lightning and AMALIE Arena,” Cigar City Brewing Chief Operating Officer Justin Clark said. “We will work together to contribute to the Tampa Bay community and elevate the fan experience at AMALIE Arena. Not only do we look at the Lightning as a pillar of our Tampa community, we know how respected they are around the world. Their contributions to the community reach far beyond sports entertainment and we are excited to contribute to their success.”

Additionally, the Hunahpu’s Beer Festival, one of the premier craft beer events in the United States, will be moving to AMALIE Arena on March 13th, 2020. The festival will mark the 11th anniversary of the event in Tampa, Florida, and the first at AMALIE Arena. The festival is a one-day celebration of Cigar City Brewing’s Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout, which is only released once a year. More details on the Hunahpu’s Beer Festival event at AMALIE Arena will be announced at a later date.

Commentary:

If Hunahpu’s Day is going to be held inside or even around Amalie arena, that may alleviate one of the biggest concerns with the hours-long beer festival: the sun.  Moving the event to an indoor venue with plenty of nearby paved parking could be a very positive change.  The date change still poses a question about conflict with Cycle Brewing’s Barrel-Aged Day, assuming that the event will still take place as usual.  Cigar City Brewing’s Hunahpu’s Day has been the Saturday anchor event of Tampa Bay Beer Week since the inception of the weeklong celebration of Bay Area craft beer.  CCB moving the event to Friday does create a hole in Tampa Bay Beer Week – as 7venth Sun Brewery announced that their post-Hunahpu’s Day celebration, Hunahpu Hangover Day, has been moved to Saturday.  Maybe Sunday will be a recovery day?  Or more likely other events may move around as well.

Hunahpu’s Day tap list begins to take shape

Cigar City Brewing’s Hunahpu’s Day has been a landmark event in the Tampa Bay craft beer community since its inception and 2016 looks no different. As the buildup of anticipation begins, the tap list for Hunahpu’s Day continues to trickle out.
