Bold City Brewery starts Treatment Thursdays

Bold City Brewery keeps rocking and rolling with news of releases and now the brewery is going to start tapping a new treatment once each week.

From the Bold City newsletter:

Also, next Thursday (29 September 2016) we’ll be starting something we’ve coined as Bold Treatment Thursdays. We’ll be taking one of the Bold City Brews and treating / infusing it with different flavors. First up next week is the Mad Manatee IPA treated with Meyers Lemon Zest and Organic Kaffir Lime Leaves. We’ll have one half barrel keg which is 15.5 gallons or approx. 124 pints. When it’s gone it’s gone and we’ll tap a newly treated brew the following Bold Treatment Thursday! No growler fills of these brews.

About Bold City Brewery
Bold City Brewery is locally owned and operated by Brian and Susan Miller (no relation to the Miller Brewing Company, although the money would be nice). They are supported by the rest of the Miller family who all have a hand in the operations whether it be marketing, distributing, ordering supplies, cleaning tanks, or doing what’s most important: brewing beer. Brian, the Brewmaster, started home brewing in 2002. He was a member of the Local Home Brewers club in Jacksonville prior to opening the brewery. His mother, Susan, left her job in management at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida to join the beer biz. She is primarily responsible for managing the on-site Tavern.
The concept of opening a business, any business, can be a scary one, but at some point,
you have to allow yourself to dream about what could be and push forward with your aspirations. There has been a lot of long hours and hard work, but we’ve been blessed with good times and a bundle of fun along the way.  Our city has a very large craft brew following and it’s our honor to create Jacksonville’s own selection of Craft Beer. We hope to see you soon! BE BOLD!

Bold City Brewery is located at 2670-7 Rosselle Street in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville’s Wicked Barley Brewing Company is now open

Aiming to pour “Naughty Ales for Noble Souls,” Wicked Barley Brewing Company is now open for business in Jacksonville.  The brewery hopes to be pouring house beers in September of 2016.

Wicked Barley Brewing is one of the only locations in the country to be located on the water with 5 dock spaces for boat access and a waterfront beer garden.

Wicked Barley Kayak Cove

Wicked Barley features a boat dock.

Wicked Barley is helmed by Production Manager Fred Thibodeaux, a veteran brewer of Cigar City Brewing acclaim. Fred reached out to Florida Beer News, and he says:

We should be starting our brewing in the next two weeks. Our brewing system is a high efficiency 15bbl system built by specific mechanical meaning all vessels are steam jacketed and the mash/Lauter tun are over sized for high gravity brewing.

We are one of the very few breweries in Florida to be using reverse osmosis water for brewing.

The draft wall has 20 taps with the ability to expand to 40. Our restaurant makes all of its own ingredients and features delicious smoked in house meats. The restaurant water is pulled from our artisan well located onsite and run through a water filter and softener.

We will be packaging limited amounts in cans, growlers, and disposable kegs. Eventually we will be purchasing a crowler machine and looking at options of limited distribution if we can produce enough beer.

Wicked Barley is located at 4100 Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville.  Their menu is on their website along with our core brands and info on the brewery.  Welcome to the Florida craft beer scene, Wicked Barley!

In the same newsletter, Engine 15 gives a small update on the progress of their downtown location:

The Downtown location re-zoning is moving along. This Thursday, June 9th our application goes before the Planning Commission. The Planning commission will review the application and determine if the proposed use is consistent with the city’s 2030 Comprehensive plan. We believe it is and hopefully the Commission will agree and recommend for approval.

Later this month on June 21st our application is scheduled to be reviewed by Land Use and Zoning. Once both of these are reviewed and depending on their particular recommendations and comments, we will have more information on the progress. So wish us well and we will update everyone with more information later in the month.

Bold City is releasing Vernon’s Pilsner this weekend

This weekend will see the release of a new beer from Jacksonville’s Bold City Brewery, Vernon’s Pilsner.

From Bold City Brewery:

Sat. April 2, 6pm. Live Music, Food & $1 for every Pint will go to St. Johns Riverkeeper.

Vernon Dean, a Bold City fixture in and around the brewery, will never be forgotten by all who visited or worked at Bold City Brewery while he was here. Vernon handled chef duties for Jolly Mon Catering inside Bold City and suddenly passed away in January 2015. We have brewed a special beer in his honor – Vernon’s Pilsner – which was created to reflect Vernon’s lovable golden and bitter personality. This is Bold City’s first pilsner.

This Saturday (April 2), Bold City Brewery is honored to host the VERNON’S PILSNER RELEASE PARTY starting at 6 pm and a toast to Vernon at 7 pm! We will be donating $1 from every pint sold to St. Johns Riverkeeper, an organization that was close to Vernon’s heart.

There will be live music performed by the awesome Kustom Deluxe band beginning at 7pm and La Bodega Original will be serving Paella for this special event. As a reminder, the JTA Trolley will be running that evening and you can get your passes right here at Bold City!

Come out and join us as we celebrate the life of Vernon Dean! We’re sure he’d say we are just doing this as an excuse to drink!

Bold City Brewery is located at 2670-7 Rosselle Street in Jacksonville.

Engine 15 Ciders & Meads is born

In a time when cider and mead are both growing categories in the world of adult beverages, another Florida craft brewery has joined the ranks of Cigar City Brewing and Green Bench Brewing Company as combination brewers and makers of honey wine & fermented apple elixir.

From the Engine 15 newsletter:

Engine 15 will begin production of ciders and meads at our downtown location. We will be initially producing a dry cider to be followed by flavored ciders. Mead will be available approximately 6-9 months after startup of operations due to its lengthy aging time.

We will have these products for sale in our Jax Beach taproom as well as in distribution here in the Jacksonville area with Champion Brands as the wholesaler. Cider will be available in 1/2, 1/6 Kegs for distribution and Draft and bottles here.

We are still awaiting final approval from the federal regulators before startup, we anticipate initial product available in February. Since Cider and Mead are technically wine we are required to have additional licensing.

Congratulations to Engine 15 for this next step in expanding their footprint.
