Hourglass Brewery has two new beers and expansion news

The Hourglass Brewery of Longwood is definitely working to keep momentum going. The Orlando-area brewery has announced two new beer for April and some further talk on their expansion.

From The Hourglass Brewery Newsletter:

We will also be tapping a couple of NEW BEERS in April:

Beatrijs, a Belgian Dubbel ale, brewed with European Red Gooseberries. Gooseberries are a very popular fruit in Belgium and are prized for their natural tartness, similar in character to a currant. It is named for the legend of the nun Beatrijs, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Middle Dutch Literature.

Foreelzies, our new Strawberry Ale, brewed with 10 lbs per bbl of 100% fresh strawberries. The result is a refreshing wheat ale with a dry but distinct strawberry character.

Not to be outdone, Hourglass is now talking about a larger distribution footprint as well:

Speaking of new beer, the brewery expansion is well underway! If you’ve been in the taproom recently, you may have noticed the new (and HUGE) tanks that were recently installed. Because of the added production capacity, our beer is going out at an unprecedented volume! We have Hourglass beer being distributed across Florida.

SeaDog Brewing Company

Sea Dog Brewing of Clearwater has four new brews to share this February

Sea Dog Brewing Company of Clearwater is abuzz with new beers. The brewpub works to release several new beers each month, and February looks to exceed expectations.

From Sea Dog Clearwater:

Making it’s debut on February 4 is the Açaí Hefeweizen (5.1% ABV). This ale is smooth and full of flavor, as it is infused with Açaí berries and finishes with mouth-watering chocolate notes. The German yeast present in this brew provides banana esters, playing on chocolate covered bananas in beer form.

On February 11, Sea Dog will be introducing the S’mores Stout (5.8% ABV). One sip of this beer will transport you to a warm camp fire on a chilly night. Rich chocolate, cinnamon graham crackers and gooey marshmallow make up this dessert-inspired beer.

The Peach Habanero Sour (4.8% ABV) makes it’s first appearance on February 18. Sure to warm you up and satisfy your sweet tooth in equal measure, this ale was soured with lactobacillus in the kettle and finished off with Habanero peppers and peaches.

Last but certainly not least, February 25 brings the Pineapple IPA (6.4% ABV) center stage. Kohatu hops give this IPA it’s tantalizing aroma. Think tropical fruits and pineapple, giving way to a slight bitterness that is balanced by sweet fruit tones.

Sea Dog Brewing Company of Clearwater is located at 26200 Highway 19 North in Clearwater.

Green Flash makes changes to lineup in 2016

Press Release: Green Flash Brewing Co. is pleased to announce its craft beer lineup for the coming year, the first under Brewmaster Erik Jensen’s leadership, including the inaugural debut of Passion Fruit Kicker, an American Wheat Ale with Passion Fruit, and Tangerine Soul Style, a Tangerine India Pale Ale, this month. Craft beer lovers in all 50 states will be able to enjoy an array of uniquely Green Flash craft brews— long-time favorites and Jensen’s new, experimental offerings.

“We are looking forward to sharing with Green Flash fans across the nation what our talented team has been brewing,” says Green Flash CEO and Co-Founder, Mike Hinkley. “Each of these beers is a labor of love and reflects our passion for the craft.”

Kicking-off the year is Tangerine Soul Style, an IPA that delivers a punch of tangerine citrus flavor and will be available nationwide for the first time this month. Brewed with American malts and a blend of Citra and Cascade hops— plus the addition of real tangerine puree added post-fermentation, it’s a variation on Green Flash’s Soul Style released in 2014. Also available this month is Passion Fruit Kicker, Green Flash’s take on the American Wheat Beer style. This drinkable wheat ale has a sweet, tart, fruity flavor via cold steeped passion fruit tea from local San Diego Tea Gallerie and real passion fruit concentrate.

In keeping with Green Flash’s reputation for craft beer innovation Cosmic Ristretto Baltic Porter with Espresso, the first graduate of the Genius Lab pilot brewing program, will be released this February. The bold, complex, java-centric (a ‘ristretto’ is a concentrated shot of espresso) brew was originally brewed by Brewers Kevin Barnes and Ron Angelo Jr., and has previously only been available in Green Flash’s San Diego tasting room. Cosmic Ristretto has an intense coffee flavor via the addition of espresso extract, plus caramel characteristics derived from Candico, a caramelized Belgian candy sugar that is added directly to the kettle and fermented out.

The Genius Lab program, launched in 2013, offers everyone at Green Flash an opportunity to brew original, small-batch brews under the guidance of Brewmaster Erik Jensen. The five-barrel pilot system was designed to be one-tenth the size of the Green Flash’s production brewery (50 barrels). The scaled down system allows team members to explore different styles and techniques with relatively good confidence that it can be repeated on the full-size system. The first Genius Lab brew to be scaled up was Jensen’s inaugural recipe for Green Flash, Golden Naked Promise, bottled for the 2015 National Homebrewers Conference in San Diego.

“We’re really proud of our experimental beer program. It allows our team members to innovate and collaborate to develop new beers,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Erik Jensen. “It complements our longstanding philosophy of not brewing necessarily to style, to develop something unique and delicious.”

Also previously only available in Green Flash’s San Diego tasting room is Dia de los Serranos, a Double Stout with Serrano Chiles that has been likened to Mexican hot chocolate. Due to its popularity, it will debut in 22 oz. bottles in February. The rich brew features a ‘caliente’ kick of fresh Serrano Chiles which are processed by hand to remove the stems and then steeped at a high temperature for one hour, the solution is later added to the fermented beer. Dia de los Serranos was first poured as a cask creation by Brewer Joe Lisica.

Sea to Sea Session Lager, a tribute to Green Flash’s Virginia Beach, Virginia brewery slated to open later this year, will arrive in May— just in time for summer. A take on the traditional all-American lager, Sea to Sea is a hybrid European-American Pilsner crafted with German and domestic malts. Lightly dry hopped and naturally carbonated, the drinkable lager has a fresh hop aroma and is full of flavor (unlike the ubiquitous fizzy, yellow beer).

Victory Brewing Company is bringing back some old favorites

Press Release: As part of its sentimental look back on nearly two decades creating delicious craft beer, Victory Brewing Company (Victory) announces the comebacks of some of their earlier popular brews that made them the craft brewing powerhouse they are today. For the next three months, Victory will lovingly resurrect three different brands to taps across the country. Through November, Hop Wallop will be available, followed by Yakima Glory in December and finally in January, Ten Years Alt will be available on tap from sea to shining sea.

An original homage to the seasonal hop harvest, Hop Wallop a juicy, hoppy Imperial IPA with an 8.5% ABV lives up to its name by packing an all-around flavor punch. Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop made his original debut in 2003 and was given a golden parachute package by the craft brewer in 2013 much to many a fan’s chagrin. Throughout its run, Hop Wallop enjoyed consistently high-ratings from craft beer aficionados and even to this day has quite a fan club. With its whole flower English and American hops and subtly silky malt base, the brilliant amber liquid gold pairs well with burgers, hard cheeses and anything BBQ.

Idolizing and thanking Washington State for the leafy bounty of hops that the Yakima Valley produces, four varieties of American hops from Yakima Valley are used for the dark IPA known as Yakima Glory. Introduced in 2008, Yakima Glory made its last tank to shelf voyage in 2013 on behalf of Victory. Deep malt aromas of crisp pretzels emerge from the pleasantly enormous hop character in the initial impression of this beer. With an ABV of 8.7% it delivers complex satisfaction with a delicious edge and brings lots of cheer to its fans in more ways than one.

Ten Years Alt was created to mark a ten-year achievement, but also to flex some serious creative craft brewer muscle by maintaining its first Dopplesticke in the country status. Released in the dead of winter 2006, its rich malt, toasted bread, toffee and caramel notes combine to warm and refresh. The tastiness and quality craftsmanship shines through in this deep amber lovely brew with an ABV of (8.5%). Fans who remember it and appreciate the style will love this comeback and those who don’t know of it, are encouraged to try it.

“Introducing new brands is very exciting to us and we love the artistic process which is one of the greatest joys of my job,” said Victory’s President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “On the flip side, the least favorite part of my job is choosing which established brand will have to pass the baton to make room for the new, young gun. I hope our fans will be as delighted as I am to see some of their cherished brands make a comeback and take a walk down memory lane through drinking some really great craft beer.”

Magic Hat is sending Vermont winter beers to sunny Florida

Press Release: Magic Hat Brewing Company recently released sixth barrels of one of its most celebrated holiday beers outside of Vermont for the first time ever. Feast of Fools, a festive raspberry stout, earned high marks from The Bros at Beer Advocate, as well as its cult-like following of passionate beer drinkers. Due to demand, last year, limited bottles were shipped nationally for the first time ever and sold out quickly. This year, Feast of Fools will now be released for draft in limited quantities to some of the best beer bars in the US. It will also be available again in 22 oz. bottles at select stores while supplies last.

Feast of Fools is a rare beer inspired by the medieval celebration of darkness and light, which was historically commemorated with gilded goblets brimming with seasonal brews. Craft beer drinkers will enjoy a deliciously dark and festive stout with sweet notes of raspberry, supported by cocoa and dark chocolate from the malts.

“This holiday season brings with it much excitement and new opportunities,” said Head Brewer Chris Rockwood. “By expanding the release to include draft availability, we can share our Feast of Fools raspberry stout with even more people. For the second consecutive year, Magic Hat will donate $5,000 from its Feast of Fools sales to the Vermont Foodbank, Vermont’s largest hunger relief organization serving 153,000 people in need. This donation will help provide 15,000 meals to people struggling from hunger in Vermont.

“Magic Hat is a true leader in the fight against hunger and with this gift will provide thousands of meals for our friends and neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Cathie Pelchat, marketing and promotions manager. “We are grateful to Magic Hat for its longtime support—Magic Hat help makes our work of ensuing that no one in Vermont goes hungry possible.”

Bringing it back with Vinyl and keeping it fresh with Winter Mingle
Magic Hat is also going retro this holiday season with the release of its throwback beer Vinyl. A scrumptious, deep amber-hued lager, Vinyl has a sweet malt taste and balanced finished. Its unique packaging features the artwork of internationally renowned linoleum print artist and Vermont native Jim Pollock, who began his career creating concert posters for popular jam bands.

Craft beer drinkers will also enjoy Magic Hat’s new Winter Mingle this season. Winter Mingle is a full-bodied stout whose malts mingle with a touch of vanilla.

With an ABV of 8.2%, Belgo Sutra offers a deep complexity that will pleasure the palate and leave taste buds begging for more.

“Belgo Sutra is our take on a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. We pulled out all the stops on this one to deliver a unique profile,” said Chris Rockwood, Head Brewer, Magic Hat Brewing Company. “By adding Belgian dark candi sugar, figs and dates to the primary fermentation tank, we infused beautiful tones of dark fruits layered over a malt body. With just enough hops to keep it from being too sweet, this delightfully sensual beer ends with flavors that are sure to excite beer lovers everywhere.”

Belgo Sutra pairs perfectly with steaks, stews and rib roasts. It also complements milk chocolate and Morbier cheese.

Belgo Sutra is extremely limited. It is only available on draft at the Magic Hat Artifactory®, the brewery’s on-site tasting room in Burlington, VT, as well as on tap at some of the top beer bars across the country.

Rated “world-class” by The Bros at Beeradvocate when it debuted in 1998, Miss Bliss has not been brewed since.
