About Short’s Brewing Company
Short’s Brewing Company began when a 22-year-old brewer named Joe Short registered Short’s Brewing Company as a business in the state of Michigan. Having already gained significant brewing experience at other Michigan breweries, Joe realized that his style of brewing was best suited to his own business model where he would not have to answer to anyone for putting lots (and lots) of the best possible ingredients into his brews, or for brewing specialty beers that some might consider outrageous. Joe wanted to brew bold, flavorful and extremely creative beer, and felt that people would travel out of the way to get them.  Today, Short’s Brewing Company continues its efforts to make the best beer on earth in Northern Michigan. Although we have quickly grown to be one of Michigan’s largest breweries, we still take pride in our hands-on, mom-and-pop approach and the energy we put into the quality of our beer, food, staff, customers, and facilities. We still brew our beer the same way we always have and we always will.

Green Flash Brewing will begin canning, sending canned beer to Florida

Press Release: This month, Co-Founder and CEO, Mike Hinkley of Green Flash Brewing Co. announces the national and year-round debut of three Green Flash beers in 12oz cans, as an extension of their existing packaged beer assortment. With orders shipping to all US distribution partners beginning in May, 6-packs of canned beers will hit store shelves in June. The new can offerings will include: Jibe Session IPA, Passion Fruit Kicker (a fruited American Wheat Ale), and Sea to Sea Zwickel Lager. Green Flash first introduced cans with Jibe Session IPA in September 2015, to an extremely limited distribution in only a few states. The reception from consumers was overwhelmingly positive, and they are now expanding their offerings and rolling out national distribution.

“Green Flash continues to evolve, learn and grow through our interactions with our customers,” explains Mike Hinkley. “Our biggest fans want to bring Green Flash with them to more and more occasions, and cans provide them that opportunity.”

Green Flash plans to produce 18,000 cases in 2016, up from 2,000 cases in 2015. With limited canning abilities available, Green Flash estimates that cans will make up just 1% of the total packaged beer sold this year. A percentage that is expected to increase when they install a permanent canning solution. The three beers that Green Flash has chosen for the can program were selected for their winning flavor profiles and year-round drinkability. Jibe Session IPA will be positioned as a can-only offering. Available in both cans and bottles is a new 2016 release, Passion Fruit Kicker. This fruited American Wheat Ale is one of the bestselling new front-line beers in the Green Flash lineup and recently scored a Gold medal at the Los Angeles International Beer Competition. Making a can-only first time national debut is Sea to Sea – a Zwickel Lager that celebrates the brand’s opening of the new Green Flash brewery in Virginia Beach, and brewing beer on both coasts by the end of the year.

The Green Flash canned beer lineup product overview is as follows:

Jibe Session IPA is navigating the brand into new hop territory. Well-balanced, floral, citrus and vibrant hop character defines our idea of what a perfect session ale should be. At 4% ABV, this session is so good, we are trimming our sails and riding the wind.

Passion Fruit Kicker is a jaw-dropping, mouth-watering, smooth brew with sweet, tart, fruity flavor. We layer passion fruit tea and passion fruit juice with wheat malt and 2-row malted barley to bring you this exhilarating crowd pleaser. 5.5% ABV

Sea to Sea is an unfiltered Zwickel lager layered with German Pilsner malts, Hallertau Mittelfreüh and Czech Saaz hops, 2-row barley, and traditional Pilsner yeast. This sessionable brew has a light body with subtle sweet malt and fruity hop flavors, notable lager yeast, and a crisp, clean finish. 4.0% ABV

In addition to the importance of cans affording craft beer fans even more occasions where they are able to enjoy Green Flash beer, Mike Hinkley has a personal connection to canning that makes the project even more meaningful. He explains, “My father worked in aluminum can production plants for almost fifty years. From the time I was a boy, I knew how to identify the markings on a can of Coke, Pepsi, or Budweiser, and be able to tell if my Dad made the cans. I took a lot of pride in that. My Dad is retired now, but it is very cool to see my Dad drink Green Flash from a can.”

Six-packs of Green Flash 12oz cans will begin shipping nationally from the brewery on May 9th, and consumers can expect to start seeing the Green Flash cans at retail in June.

Born in a dream, look for Bell’s Quinannan Falls Special Lager coming in June

Press Release: Bell’s Brewery is proud to announce a new addition to our specialty packaging lineup this year.

Bell’s Quinannan Falls Special Lager Beer (6.3% ABV) will debut in 12 oz. cans, packaged in six-packs, this June.

“Quinannan Falls” pronounced “҆Kwi-ni-naan,” or Q-Falls as it affectionately known at our pub, has been an Eccentric Café favorite since 2009.

This limited specialty beer will ship to all states we distributes to.

“We’re really excited about adding Quinannan Falls to our family of Bell’s beers this year. We’re also looking forward to releasing additional new beers as the year goes on” said Bell’s Vice President Laura Bell.

Literally born in a dream: Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s Brewery, dreamt that he was at the mystically hidden retreat of Quinannan Falls, somewhere in the boreal north. Neither Quinannan Falls nor the beer actually existed outside his imagination, but he remembered enough about it to sketch a recipe and label, which was put into full form by Michigan artist Kathleen Kalinowski, the following morning.

The end result is a dry-hopped lager that possesses a crisp, dry bitterness you would expect from a German pilsner, but the use of highly aromatic Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest, evoke the fragrant pine forests that inspired this beer.

For more information, keep an eye on Bell’s blog.

The Brew Hub signs Asheville’s Green Man Brewery

Press Release:

(Lakeland, FL) – Brew Hub, a company led by a team of beer industry executives and craft brewing experts, has announced a partnership with Green Man Brewing Company, an award-winning craft brewery based in Asheville, NC.

Brew Hub will partner brew several beers with Green Man, including Green Man IPA, ESB, Porter and Green Man seasonal beers. The beers will be brewed at Brew Hub’s new, state-of-the-art craft brewery in Lakeland, Fla. beginning in late 2014. With this partnership in place, Green Man will immediately expand distribution throughout Florida and plans to expand to other Southeastern states in 2015.

“Green Man Brewing is exactly the kind of high-quality craft brewery Brew Hub is designed to serve,” said Tim Schoen, founder and chief executive officer of Brew Hub. “They’ve established themselves in Asheville, NC as one of the emerging premier craft brewers in the country. They brew amazing craft beer and the Green Man team understands every aspect of the beer industry. Our partnership will allow Green Man to grow quickly, and it will allow craft beer drinkers in several states to discover their award-winning beers.”

Green Man was founded in downtown Asheville in 1997. The company was then purchased by Dennis Thies who expanded the brewery in 2010. The expansion allowed Green Man to distribute its beer to bars, restaurants, grocery and independent liquor stores throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

“Our partnership with Brew Hub is a major milestone for us,” said Jon Spath, hoperations manager, Green Man Brewing Company. “Brew Hub has built a state-of-the-art craft brewery and has a brewing staff led by Dr. Paul Farnsworth that’s second to none in the craft beer industry. Later this year, craft beer drinkers in Florida will begin enjoying our beers for the first time, and we believe this is only the beginning of this partnership.”

Green Man’s brewing operations are led by head brewer, John Stuart. After starting as a home brewer, Stuart began brewing for several craft breweries in the early 1990s. He joined Green Man in 2007. Stuart holds a masters of brewing from the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago.

In December 2013, Brew Hub announced partnerships with Cigar City Brewing, Orange Blossom Pilsner, and BJ’s Restaurants (Nasdaq: BJRI). With the new Green Man partnership, Brew Hub will expand brewing capacity at its Lakeland brewery to 75,000 barrels, or one million cases. Brew Hub will partner brew approximately 10,000 barrels of beer annually for Green Man.

Partner brewing is a process that allows craft brewers not only to brew their beer to exact specifications under the supervision of their own brewmaster, but also to package and distribute from the Brew Hub brewery and make their beer available for export to international markets. Partner brewing allows craft breweries to expand their distribution without the overhead cost of building a new brewery or transporting beer across the country. Brew Hub also offers services, including sales, marketing, public relations, logistics, compliance and government affairs.

The Lakeland brewery is located in Interstate Commerce Park off the I-4 Corridor. The brewery will feature a 3,000-square-foot tasting room where consumers can enjoy beers brewed by any of Brew Hub’s partners. The tasting room and brewery will be fully operational and open to the public by August. The Florida brewery is the first of five large, state-of-the-art craft breweries Brew Hub plans to open across the country.

Earlier this year Brew Hub completed hiring of all key brewery personnel for its Lakeland brewery, including its brewing staff; quality control and lab technicians; and operations, warehouse and tasting room staff.

Brew Hub brewing operations is led by Chief Brewmaster, Dr. Paul Farnsworth. Farnsworth has spent more than 30 years in the craft beer industry. He earned a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of London and has been instrumental in the startup or operation of more than 100 breweries in 10 countries.

Brew Hub was founded by a team of beer industry executives led by Tim Schoen, chief executive officer, and President Jerry Mullane. Brew Hub’s financial sponsor is The Yucaipa Companies, a private investment firm.

Uinta Brewing in Florida

Cans of Uinta Trader Session IPA coming to Florida

Press Release:

Uinta Cans Trader Session IPA

First brewed and released as a draught only brand in 1994, Uinta Brewing Company’s Trader IPA was a trailblazer in the Session IPA category, a category that, at the time, was far from a trend. In 1996, Uinta purchased their first bottling line and Trader made its way in to a bottle and on to retail shelves across Utah.
Twenty years later, the Trader brand continues to be a successful brand for Uinta. To continue their history of keeping Trader’s packaging relevant to their offerings, Uinta introduces Trader Session IPA Cans. Trader Compass Cans are expected to hit all of Uinta’s current distribution networks in June, 2014.
A beer that exemplifies the term ‘session’, Trader is a noted for its bright hop character and balance. In a time where Session beers, and Session IPA’s in particular, are becoming a popular segment in the craft industry, Uinta is excited to celebrate and expand distribution of Trader a brand that showcases Uinta’s 21 years of experience in brewing consistent, full-flavored session (and non-session) beers.
