Sanford Brewing Company to Grand open on February 25th

Press Release: One year after beginning the renovation of a vacant, c.1930 building at 400 S. Sanford Avenue in Sanford’s quaint downtown district, Sanford Brewing Company (SBC) is now serving up its own brand of craft beer, unique food fare, and live entertainment to a steadily growing number of local and out-of-town patrons. The new brewpub will officially celebrate its opening on February 25.

Sanford Brewing Company

Sanford Brewing Company opened its doors for the first time on October 8, 2016, just after Hurricane Matthew blew through Central Florida. “We put out a ‘Shhhh, we’re having a soft opening’ announcement on our Facebook page and were overwhelmed by the outpouring of interest and support,” says Borden “Bo” Hallowes, SBC taproom manager and one of SBC’s four owners.

At the time, work was still under way on the brewery, which includes 3-barrel (93-gallon) and 15-barrel (465-gallon) brewing systems, each with eight fermentation tanks. “We didn’t have our own beer then,” says Hallowes, “but we had a great selection of our own craft sodas; other brewers’ beer, cider, and mead; and wine. We introduced food service the following Monday.”

Now, four months later, SBC offers a popular food menu, including its signature beer cheese and pretzel, make-your-own mac and cheese skillet, and prime beef burgers, as well as eight of its own beers. In January, SBC was selected for a 2017 Orlando Sentinel Foodie Award in the brewery menu category. Recently, the brewpub extended its hours on include lunch on weekdays as well as weekends.

“We’re having great success with our Weekender lemon wheat ale, FLipa session IPA, Killa Vanilla Porter, Peachy Keen saison, and Celery City Pale Ale, which we also use in our Proud Mary beer cocktail,” says Hallowes. “While our selection changes, we consistently have between eight and ten of our own beers on tap.”*

SBC recently contracted with distribution company Wayne Densch to begin introducing SBC beer to the greater Orlando metropolitan area in mid-March.

With solid food service, additional outdoor seating, and live music and other entertainment every weekend, SBC is attracting a lot of attention. “We had no idea that this type of place was available so close to home,” says Oviedo resident Patti Maerz, a repeat visitor to SBC. “It’s open and airy, warm and friendly, and totally one of a kind. We are so impressed with the size of the brewery and the quality of their beer. There’s something for just about everyone—food and drink.”

The brewery will host a grand opening celebration on February 25 from 4 p.m. till midnight. The public is invited. Details are in the events section of the company’s website (www.sanfordbrewing.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/sanfordbrewing).

Sanford Brewing Company begins construction

Press Release: Owners of the Sanford Brewing Company (SBC) announce the beginning of construction to transform an 85-year-old property on Sanford, Florida’s recently renovated Sanford Avenue into a new, 4,500 square-foot craft beer brewery and taproom.

“We chose Sanford as the location for our brewery because we wanted to be a part of the exciting growth occurring along Sanford Avenue and other parts of Sanford’s historic downtown,” says Robyn Esser, one of SBC’s four owners. “We see this area becoming an important central Florida entertainment district, where visitors can stroll along several blocks to enjoy a variety of craft beer, wine, and live music.” In addition to Esser, SBC owner-operators include Chris Esser, Borden “Bo” Hallowes, and Allan Jackson.

SBC, which is located at 400 South Sanford Avenue (corner of Sanford Avenue and 4th Street), will include a 15-barrel (465-gallon) primary brewing system, a 3-barrel (93-gallon) pilot brewing system, and a 100+ seat taproom with food service. After operations are established, company owners intend to distribute SBC craft beer locally and across the state of Florida.

“SBC will be a tremendous economic asset to the newly redeveloped Sanford Avenue. As part of the downtown Community Redevelopment Area, we are excited that this new business will become a vital part of this emerging entertainment district,” says Bob Turk, Sanford’s Economic Development Director.

SBC owners are hoping to begin brewing and serving the public before the second quarter of 2016. The project received two grants from the city of Sanford to support interior and exterior renovation.

Three new Orlando breweries aim for 2014 opening

The Orlando area is always on the mind of sunshine-loving tourists. While Orlando’s stalwart breweries are keeping the flame of good beer burning, the area is about to get three new additions. According to an article in the Orlando Sentinel, the eastern side of central Florida has several citizens building their sudsy dreams.

Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company: Robbie Carelli and Andy Sistrunk are working to build Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company in the DeLand area of the east coast. These partners christened their brewery for the historic name of DeLand and have a building on Georgia Avenue. The brewery duo were homebrewers before beer dreams lead them to entrepreneurship and have perfected 14-20 recipes to serve to thirsty patrons.

Ten 10 Brewing Company: Owner Mike Wallace has plans to open a brewery and tasting room on Virginia Drive in Orlando, but plans can change. Ten 10 Brewing Company has leased the space that was once scheduled to be home to Orange Blossom Brewing in Orlando, and would like to be open by September. Wallace, a former employee of Terrapin Brewing Company, wants to have twelve taps of craft beer on draft in a 2,800 square-foot space.

Wop’s Hops: Owner Greg Piecora has used a term that many deem offensive and tried to turn it on its head, since it is the term his wife uses for his brewing hobby. Piecora and co-owner Peter Minelga have bought the old Stokes Fish Market building on Sanford Avenue. The duo plan to open a brewery and 1,000 square-foot tasting room to accommodate locals and drivers passing through Sanford, complete with a patio for drinking in the sunshine. Until the brewery opens, Piecora’s beers can be sampled in the small batches that he makes for Marco Dino’s Italian Ristorante in Sanford.
