Release Party Blood Orange Poster

“We at the Shipyard and Sea Dog Brewing Companies are really excited to be bottling our first beer in Florida, and there could be no better way to start than with Blood Orange, which was developed and brewed right here in Clearwater, by our Master Brewer and Clearwater native, Bobby Baker and his team,” said Paul Carbone, Shipyard and Sea Dog Brewing Co.’s Florida General Manager.

The beer was inspired by Florida’s heat. Baker and his team wanted to create something that was refreshing and full of flavor that appealed to every Floridian.

“This beer is unique for its blend of tart blood orange and equally sweet Florida orange peel flavors,” said Baker. “The combination creates a one-of-a-kind ale you won’t find anywhere else.”

The brewery has already produced 500 barrels, equaling 15,500 gallons. The beer will be available in Florida year-round, while making its debut as a seasonal product in other states. According to Baker, the brewing process takes approximately 12 days. The Master Brewer and his team used a traditional yeast strain. For this particular brew, Baker added the coriander and sweet orange peel at the end of the boil to provide the maximum aroma and flavor. U.S. Cascade hops were used to create the citrus notes and floral bouquet.

Making it’s debut on February 4 is the Açaí Hefeweizen (5.1% ABV). This ale is smooth and full of flavor, as it is infused with Açaí berries and finishes with mouth-watering chocolate notes. The German yeast present in this brew provides banana esters, playing on chocolate covered bananas in beer form.

On February 11, Sea Dog will be introducing the S’mores Stout (5.8% ABV). One sip of this beer will transport you to a warm camp fire on a chilly night. Rich chocolate, cinnamon graham crackers and gooey marshmallow make up this dessert-inspired beer.

The Peach Habanero Sour (4.8% ABV) makes it’s first appearance on February 18. Sure to warm you up and satisfy your sweet tooth in equal measure, this ale was soured with lactobacillus in the kettle and finished off with Habanero peppers and peaches.

Last but certainly not least, February 25 brings the Pineapple IPA (6.4% ABV) center stage. Kohatu hops give this IPA it’s tantalizing aroma. Think tropical fruits and pineapple, giving way to a slight bitterness that is balanced by sweet fruit tones.
