Sea Dog Brewing has four new beers for the month of April

Press Release: Sea Dog Brewing Company of Clearwater is pouring four new beers for the month of April.

The newly released Shipyard Blood Orange Belgian Wit (5.1 % ABV) is a refreshing citrus brew with a traditional cloudy appearance. Beer connoisseurs will detect light notes of coriander, and the tang of blood orange. Baker added Florida Sweet Orange peels to make the aroma immediately apparent upon the first sip. Blood Orange is the first Shipyard beer to be bottled in Florida, and is brewed at the Sea Dog Brewery in Clearwater. On draft and in bottles now.

“50 Leaves of Grey ” Strong Belgian Ale (8.35% ABV) is a beautiful red-brown color, similar to hot tea. The brew has small notes of a traditional Belgian, but with a twist of bergamot added to the boil of the beer. This adds the taste of sweet orange and a floral bouquet. Idaho 7 Hops were used to complete the beer, giving it a tangy tropical and citrus taste with big notes of resiny pine and hints of black tea. Coming April 14th.

Shipyard to expand Florida operations

Shipyard Brewing has announced intentions to become a Florida beer. Shipyard is presently based out of Portland, Maine with pubs in the Northeastern U.S. and two pubs in Central Florida (one in Orlando and one in Clearwater). The installation of a 20-barrel brewing system in the Clearwater pub marks a significant investment in Florida by the Maine company. The Sea Dog Pub began brewing on a 1.5 barrel brewing system once each month according to an article in Tampa’s Creative Loafing. Shipyard would like the expanded operation to be open by February.

Shipyard has made several previous forays into brewing fresh beer in the Florida market, opening a pub in the Orlando Airport and another pub called “The Shipyard Emporium” in Winter Park adjacent to Rollins College. Both of those facilities are now historical, having closed their doors after several years of brewing unique house beers.

Shipyard is probably best known as the maker of Sea Dog Blue Paw Wheat Ale, Monkey Fist IPA, and Pumpkinhead Ale. Shipyard says that they want to be considered a local brew in the Florida market.
