We’re not on Fern Street anymore; Angry Chair Brewing’s new space on Florida Avenue

Angry Chair Brewing has made the most of their humble facilities at the crossroads of Florida Ave and Fern Street, but when Angry Chair co-founder and co-owner Ryan Dowdle announced on the BeerWise podcast that they would be moving to a larger facility, the public had many questions about their new home. Earlier this week, Ryan gave Florida Beer News a tour of the new facility as well as answers to some frequently asked questions about the brewery.

Angry Chair Brewing announces next bottle release

Angry Chair Brewing has made dessert beers their calling card. The Seminole Heights craft brewery has so far released beers based on sweet treats like cupcakes and french toast (not to mention some great sour beers), and their next release falls right in line.

From Angry Chair Brewing:

This Saturday will be our first release of Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake Stout. This is Cupcake’s bigger, stronger brother and it sits at 10.6%. Bottles will go on sale at 12pm out of the brew house. Cash is preferred but cards can be taken if necessary, each bottle is $20. Bottle count per person is TO BE DETERMINED. We will update you on the count as soon as possible.

Angry Chair Brewing is located at 6401 North Florida Avenue in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa. The release of Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake Stout will take place on Saturday. July 23rd. The trouble starts at 12pm.

About Angry Chair Brewing:
Everybody has an angry chair, be it work, a traffic jam, or where else. Angry Chair Brewing is about the realization that you have one and the celebration that you can get away from it. We come from a corporate background where we associated these places as our “angry chair” so we wanted to establish a brewery and tasting room to break away from the monotony, the rat race, the white collar world, or wherever your angry chair is.
The ultimate plan at Angry Chair Brewing is to brew beers that we like to drink. Right now we like to drink more sessionable styles: hoppy pale ales, Berliner weisses, low ABV saison, and other easy-drinkers. We plan to lean on these styles for our core beers. However, one thing we absolutely believe to be true is that the public will be choosing our “core” beers for us: if you like the beer, we will keep brewing it.

7venth Sun announces another Hunahpu Hangover Day

It is no secret that 7venth Sun is driving great beer forward in their Dunedin home and that, as they told Florida Beer News, the new Sun location in Seminole Heights is well on its way. This year, the annual day-after-Hunahpu Day celebration, dubbed Hunahpu Hangover Day, will have a brother.

This flyer from the 2nd annual Hunahpu Hangover Day captures the essence of the event.

From 7venth Sun (condensed, see original here):

You’ve been a believer, a supporter, and a lover of beer, and it’s only because of you that we get to do what we love most…

This year for Hangover Day, we thought we would christen our new location with a lot party in honor of you. Since we are still in the process of building out for the new facility, the parking lot will host the event. And because Dunedin is where it all started and what you made possible, we are also going to continue the tradition of Dunedin Hangover Day, too.

Thanks again for believing in what we do. It’s damned fun because we get to hang out with you while we drink and make beer.

Salud,

Devon and Justin, and the 7venth Sun Crew

Hunahpu Hangover Day will take place at the 7venth Sun Seminole Heights and 7venth Sun Dunedin locations on Sunday, March 13th 2016.

7venth Sun wants to take creativity as far as it will go in their new home

When news broke of Dunedin’s 7venth Sun Brewery opening a new and larger home in Seminole Heights, the rumor mill started speculating about what might be in store for the stalwart crew of the 7venth Sun. In mid-November, 7venth Sun co-owners Justin Stange and Devon Kreps detailed just what they had in mind for the brewery’s rise in one of Tampa’s most up-and-coming neighborhoods.

The new building itself is near the intersection of Nebraska and Sligh in Tampa just north of the Mermaid Tavern. This building is more than ten times the size of their Dunedin home, and once renovated will offer brewing staff a canvas to create exactly the type of beers they envisioned when the 7venth Sun rose in 2011. During and after the process, the Dunedin 7venth Sun will remain open–Kreps and Stange have no plans to close the Dunedin location.

What type of beers? “We are looking to set up a climate-controlled barrel cellar, stage more blends, and make more Belgian-style farmhouse ales.” Stange admits that most of the beers that have been released from the facility in Dunedin have been from a single barrel, that should change when the new place opens.

Opening day is in the works, but the building will need some renovation and repairs before construction, and then the brewery will introduce itself to the new building in phases.

Also included in this new home will be a Quality Assurance lab and an increased presence in distribution, including 7venth Sun cans available locally. Stange estimates that year one will raise their annual production eightfold.

“We remain dedicated to making the beers we love,” says Stange. “We’re not trying to take over the world or to be on every corner, just to raise the bar on creativity as high as we can.”

One of 7venth Sun's goals is to make more fruited wild ales and blended barrel-aged beers.

Angry Chair Brewing Company fills the first keg

Angry Chair Brewing Company is becoming “less theoretical by the day,” says co-owner Ryan Dowdle. Dowdle is rightfully excited because now, after years of waiting, delays, and more delays, Angry Chair Brewing Company has passed the point of no return. This weekend, Angry Chair Brewing has filled its first keg.

Passing this latest mile marker indicates just how close the Seminole Heights craft brewery is to opening their doors. A solid opening date has not been set, and Dowdle has been somewhat tight-lipped on the subject. “Soon,” he replies to the many inquiries Angry Chair receives on the matter. But soon cannot come soon enough for those who have tasted beers like Three Little Birds Berliner Weiss, German Chocolate Cake Stout, or Bananas Foster.

When it opens, Angry Chair Brewing Company’s tasting room will be located at 6401 North Florida Avenue in Tampa.

Southern Brewing celebrates International Beer Day with new brews

Press Release:

Southern Brewing & Winemaking (Southern) has brewed three beer styles from countries around the world in celebration of International Beer Day on August 1, 2014.

“Beer styles vary so widely across the world and it’s important for us to recognize how different they are while still all contributing to the craft beer culture,” stated Brew Master Brian Fenstermacher. “A great way for us to celebrate craft beer from different nations is to brew styles from different countries and make sure that we help expose those styles to our local scene. What better day for us to do that than on a holiday dedicated to just that?” The brewery chose to brew an English Mild, an Australian Pale Ale, and an Irish Stout for the event.

This is the first time that Southern has brewed and released an English Mild. Similar to Brown Ales, English Milds are refreshing session beers that are lighter and less hoppy than American Brown Ales.

Australian Pale ale is another style that Southern has not previously attempted to brew. “We thought Australian Pale Ale would be a fun beer to brew for the occasion, because it’s a style rarely seen in the country, let alone Tampa,” stated Fenstermacher. The style is defined by the focus on bittering hops without late hop additions, as well as a more malty profile than an American Pale Ale.

Fenstermacher also chose to bring back the Irish Stout recipe that was brewed for Southern’s St Patrick’s Day Celebration this year. “It was the first beer we’d put on nitro in the taproom,” stated Fenstermacher. “It went over really well, and was a customer favorite, so we are happy to bring it back for International Beer Day.”

The three international styles, brewed on July 11, will be released exclusively in the Southern taproom on Friday, August 1. All three beers will be available by the glass and in growler fills.

Angry Chair Brewing Company’s tasting room

Angry Chair Brewing Company has paved the way to opening day with the sweat of their brows and the grey hairs on their heads. While the boys in Seminole Heights have their brewing system, their tanks, and their permits, they have just released a mockup of what their tasting room will look like through their design company, Livework Studios.

On Livework’s Facebook page is a picture of what Angry Chair’s tasting room will look like. Although, as a fan pointed out, the chairs look pretty calm and peaceful.

Angry Chair Brewing is located at 6401 North Florida Avenue in Tampa. They are not open yet, but are working furiously to open their doors before summer’s end 2014.
