HopCat Port St Lucie

Florida is getting a HopCat Restaurant and Beer Bar in Port Saint Lucie

Press Release: BarFly Ventures LLC announced plans to open its first Florida HopCat location in late 2017 in the fast-growing Atlantic coast city of Port St. Lucie.

The award-winning restaurant and beer bar will feature 100 taps of craft beer and cider along with a full food menu, including HopCat’s famous Crack Fries, named among the 10 best French fries in the country by Food Network Magazine.

HopCat will be located in a newly constructed $2 million waterfront building in the Tradition community off SW Meeting Street near Panera Bread. The building is being developed by Innovo Development Group, of Kalamazoo, Mich..

The location is a homecoming for HopCat Chief Operating Officer Mark Gray, who lives with his wife and children in PSL.

“Bringing HopCat to my home has always been a personal goal. The opportunity to open at Tradition offered us the perfect way to introduce our restaurant and craft beer bar to the state of Florida,” said Gray, who has lived in PSL for 16 years. “Florida’s craft beer industry is innovative and growing. We look forward to working with the industry to provide a hub and a showcase for Florida’s brewers.”

Port St. Lucie Mayor Gregory Oravec welcomed HopCat as part of Port St. Lucie’s vibrant restaurant scene.

“As the eighth largest city in Florida and growing, we see an increasing number of retailers and restaurateurs wanting to call Port St. Lucie ‘home,’” Oravec said. “We could not be more proud to have one of our local residents, Mark Gray, leading the effort to bring a special concept like HopCat to one of our landmark waterfront locations. If they execute like we expect them to, their only problem will be not having enough seats.”

HopCat – Port St. Lucie will include a large waterfront dining area with interior seating for up to 250 people.

HopCat’s menu includes signature half-pound burgers, Detroit-style pizza, homemade soups and salads, a variety of homemade shareables and entrees like customizable Killer Mac & Cheese. HopCat’s award-winning beer-battered Crack Fries have gained legions of fans as the perfect complement to craft beer.

The project is expected to result in the creation of about 130 jobs at HopCat.

“We are pleased to help HopCat open its exciting new waterfront restaurant in Port St. Lucie and Tradition,” said Jay Gudebski, president of Innovo. “HopCat’s award-winning food and incredible selection of craft beer will be a great addition to Tradition’s vibrant community dining scene.

HopCat will also bring BarFly Ventures’ industry-leading waste reduction program to Port St. Lucie. The program has a goal of composting and recycling 90 percent or more of the waste generated at BarFly restaurants.

Due South Brewing releases Citrafied – a Citra pale ale

Press Release: Due South Brewing Company has released a new core brand – Citrafied – that will be available year-round at the Due South tap room and throughout their distribution network. It will be available on draft and in 12 ounce cans beginning late November in bars, restaurants, and retail locations across South Florida and in December throughout most of the state of Florida.

Citrafied was crafted out of an almost year-long process of experimentation and iterations, honing in on the perfect combination of hops and malts. It began with a series of consumer-driven blind tasting events, where owner and head brewer Mike Halker guided customers through a collection of hop varietal focused pale ales. After each panel, the preference was clear, and the brewing team went to work creating a pale ale that would focus on Citra hops.

“We tried a lot of different hops,” Halker says. “There was a clear winner… we decided to make the clear winner available to everyone.”

The beer pours with a golden vibrancy and produces an incredible aroma of tangerine and orange peel. A clean and crisp flavor profile and finish help to accentuate the refreshing nature of the beer, which makes it both approachable and incredibly satisfying.

“The idea was to focus on the flavor profile,” he continues, “to create a beer that is hoppy but not overly bitter. We structured this pale ale around a balanced profile with a moderate alcohol content in order to craft something that would be great for all of the outdoor activities that South Florida has to offer. For me, I consider it the perfect beach and pool beer.”

The response thus far in the tasting room preview has been incredibly positive, with many customers anticipating the full roll out of canned package and its availability in the retail market.

The pale ale, which comes in at 5.1% alcohol by volume, will round out the year-round portfolio of Due South Brewing Company, joining Category 3 IPA, Category 5 IPA, and Caramel Cream Ale.

The Details: We will be releasing limited quantities of our first ever Grand Cru on draft and in bottles. What is a Grand Cru, you ask? The term Grand Cru denotes a very special beer – and this is one we have been working on for months. Grand also means “large” in French, and this beer is big, full of rich toasty and caramel malt flavors, with just enough hops to balance the sweetness. It is also big in alcohol content at 11% ABV. This beer should age well, much like our faithful Brewmaster and our wonderful brewery. Don’t miss out on this limited release!

June 25th- HALFWAY TO CHRISTMAS PARTY!
2:00pm-6:00pm
Barrel of Monks Brewery
The Details: Okay folks, pay attention here because this is a party you are not going to want to miss. We know how hard it is to go a full year without Father Christmas (our delicious spiced holiday ale) so we are giving you a chance to enjoy some in June. We will be releasing not one but three versions of Father Christmas – including two barrel aged versions in special wax dipped bottles. One of these (green wax) was aged in bourbon barrels, the other (red wax) was aged in cabernet barrels. They are both amazing! There are only 120 bottles of each of those – so don’t miss out. This will be a fun party which will include a visit by Santa – who will be giving away some gifts to all the good girls and boys!
