Barrel of Monks Grand Cru 2024

Barrel of Monks Brewing announces release of 2024 Grand Cru

The Grand Cru, a tradition that dates back to the Old World traditions of Belgian brewing, is typically the beer named by a brewery or winery as their best work released for enthusiasts to enjoy in a given year. As a Belgian-inspired brewery, Boca Raton’s Barrel of Monks Brewing proudly continues this tradition with its annual Grand Cru release, connecting you to the rich history and heritage of Belgian brewing.

About Civil Society Brewing

The spirit of our brewery starts with our exceptional love of beer, our unique recipes, and our strong sense of independence. We consistently strive to push the boundaries and bring a little Florida sunshine to your tongue.

We are a family operation, and not because it’s cool, but because that’s who we enjoy working with, literally. Our tanks are named for family and loved ones, those who got us where we are today and who continue to support us in our crazy ideas. When we started, we never anticipated being as far as we are. We take pride in each step, each success and each mistake (yes, we have had to dump beer before).

We are small, but not in our sense of possibilities. We are lofty in our goals of what we want from our hop-forward beer. It is this heritage of hard work and craft that we want to continue and pass down to our kids. We just want to win the hearts and palates of discerning beer drinkers all over.

Saltwater Brewery, Barrel of Monks Brewing, and 3 Sons Brewing collaborate on beers for Publix dinner series

Recently, 3 Sons Brewing, Saltwater Brewery, and Barrel of Monks Brewing announced that their three breweries were collaborating on a beer called “Lime in the CocoMonk.”  When we reached out to Saltwater Brewery for more information, Director of Operations Dustin Jeffers said that the collaboration on this beer went deeper than just one beer – there would be a series of beers that the breweries worked on in order to launch them at two Publix Aprons beer dinners in South Florida.

“We did a collab at Barrel of Monks with 3 Son’s for an upcoming Publix Apron dinner series.  It is called Lime in the CocoMonk, and is going to be a 7% Saison with coconut, lime, and dry-hopped with Sabro hop (gives off similar flavors).  It will be bottle conditioned in 750s and on draft.  Idea is to have the flavors there, but not over the top because it is meant to pair with food.  The dinners are on Friday August 30th at the Boca Raton Publix Apron and Saturday August 31st at the Plantation Apron store.  Here is the info on the dinner:

I’m pretty sure each brewery is planning on having their collabs on tap.  We plan on releasing them at the dinner first then everywhere else.  The idea was also to use adjuncts in the beer that you can buy at Publix.  We will give attendees the recipe so they can brew it at home.

Odd Breed Wild Ales logo

Barrel of Monks Brewing now co-owns Odd Breed Wild Ales

While the number of craft breweries in Florida continues to rise, like the rest of the United States, yesterday brought news of another group of breweries joining forces and joining companies.

From Barrel of Monks Brewing newsletter:

Barrel of Monks is excited to announce that our partners are now co-owners of Odd Breed Wild Ales! This dream team was a long time coming, and we’re delighted to make it official.
Look forward to new specialty beers, added selections and an increase in rare and aged bottles and drafts. You will be able to buy Odd Breed’s beer in our tasting room, and also be able to order Barrel of Monks in the Odd Breed location.

Best of all, both entities will remain strongly independent craft breweries…no nonsense here. Now that’s something to toast to.

(9:00am July 24th) Some clarification from Odd Breed Wild Ales via Facebook:

As co-founder and brewmaster, I have retained all of my original ownership percentage at Odd Breed. My former business partner sold his shares to my good friends at Barrel of Monks. Barrel of Monks and Odd Breed are separate entities. Barrel of Monks did not buy Odd Breed.

Odd Breed Wild Ales logo

About Odd Breed Wild Ales
Odd Breed Wild Ales is a small brewery focused on the production of wild ales and farmhouse ales in Pompano Beach, Florida. At Odd Breed Wild Ales, all of our beers are fermented with our unique mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria, and aged in oak barrels. We make beers inspired by our favorite Lambics and Farmhouse ales of Belgium, yet our focus is on creating unique barrel aged wild ales, many of which utilize Florida’s vast array of fresh citrus and tropical fruit.

Our beers are driven by experimentation and curiosity—we aren’t afraid to brew something atypical, but we also aren’t afraid to dump bad beer. We don’t brew trendy or gimmicky beer. We don’t skimp on ingredients or process, and our products take months and sometimes years before they are ready. Our beer is not easy to make and it is very labor intensive, but we think it is worth the effort. We hope you like to drink the beers we like to make!

About Barrel of Monks Brewing
Barrel of Monks Brewing is a Belgian-inspired craft brewery in Boca Raton, FL. Barrel of Monks Brewing is the first production brewery in the city, and the first brewery in the state to focus 100% on Traditional Belgian Inspired Ales.

The idea for the brewery was born several years ago when a group of Belgian-beer loving friends started traveling to Belgium to see how their favorite beers were brewed. Along the way, they learned about themselves as well as the beer. The three friends started brewing themselves and never looked back, honing their brewing skills to develop high-quality ales reminiscent of the fine ales coming out of Belgium.

Barrel of Monks Brewing’s Belgian-inspired ales have won numerous awards, including awards from the Best Florida Beer Competition for their Belgian-inspired ales.

Big Blue Brewing announces new brews for July

Big Blue Brewing of Cape Coral announces a few new beers coming in the month of July.

From Big Blue Brewing:

First is the “Tangled up in Blueberries” blueberry wheat ale! A beautiful, refreshing and fun blend of blueberry, vanilla and lime juice, that dances through the summer heat with the grace of a fading evening sunbeam. This is a full batch so it should be available throughout summer.

Next up is a brand new series of beers I have affectionately dubbed the “Cake Shake Series”. Inspired by the flavors of some classic cake recipes and modernized brewing styles, these beers will usually feature fruit flavors and rich sweet enhancements with lactose, vanilla and other adjuncts.

First up is in this category is “Right Round” Pineapple Upside Down Cake, brewed with lots of pineapple, cherry, vanilla, molasses and lactose! This beer is as rich as the cake that inspired it’s inception! This too is “essentially” a full batch and should be available for weeks. I say “essentially” because I did fill a Wicked Dolphin 6 year old Bottled in Bond rum barrel with the base beer (prior to adding the fruits) so that we can release a Coconut Rum Cake style beer in a few months!

For a more detailed experience of our beer selection or the brewing process, take a tour with the Brewer or try a flight of four beers while you enjoy sitting on our covered patio listening to some great local music and a great local cold beer.
