Grasslands Brewing Company

GrassLands Brewing has an opening timeline

Grass Lands Brewing, Tallahassee’s up-and-coming craft brewery is getting closer to opening every day. Recently, the Tallahassee future brewery has given a few hints as to the proximity of opening day.

From the Grass Lands Brewing Newsletter:

The upcoming delivery of our 2.5 bbl pilot system is eagerly awaited – mainly because we’ll be able to bang out much bigger batches to bring to events and the like in the future.

We anticipate the taproom to be fully-functional by the middle of December, which positively feeds into our anticipated launch timeline of sometime in January 2015! We’ve got some cool things planned for a grand-opening, as well as several invite-only soft launches. Good things are on the menu, so to speak 🙂

Next up is some serious elbow grease we’ll be putting in following the general contracting clean-up in the taproom that’ll take place next week prior to Thanksgiving.

GrassLands is working hard to get their brewing operations and tasting room open and functional. Look for more news in the near future.

GrassLands Brewing begins construction

GrassLands Brewing company recently completed their campaign on CrowdBrewed, raising over $30,000 for their new brewery facility, and now the building begins!

From the GrassLands newsletter:

Riding on the high that was the successful close to our campaign ($34,145 raised via 243 backers), we kept it going with the start of construction on our building! Today we chat very briefly about all that goes into any construction project (which won’t do the concept of construction any justice because we’re only novices), as well as the plans for our overall building. Regardless of how long it took to get to this point and how long it’ll take before our house is ready to hold some parties, we’re really, really psyched about what’s to come!

Congratulations to GrassLands and good luck on these next steps.

Proof Brewing joins the crowler craze

Another piece of news from Tallahassee’s Proof Brewing Company. A bit ago, Proof announced that they are bringing their shiny new Railroad Square brewing system online. Last week, Proof announced that they are joining the crowler craze.

From Proof’s newsletter:

A Crowler is made possible from our friends at Oskar Blues and Ball Corporation. It’s a 32 ounce single use recyclable can that you fill with draft fresh beer you can take home, just like a Growler! Perfect for tailgates, beach trips, pool parties, and more. So come out and join us at Railroad Square for our First Friday Crowler Launch Party [on August 1st]!

August 1st has come and gone, and now crowlers are in full swing at Proof. Add one to the number of Florida breweries crowlering, including Due South of Boynton Beach, Cigar City of Tampa, and Cycle Brewing of Saint Petersburg.

Fermentation Lounge to release Canopy Roads collaboration

Fermentation Lounge (known to locals as “The Ferm”) has bragging rights as Tallahassee’s first craft brewery since the rough waters of the late 1990s. They are not resting on their laurels, though. The folks at The Ferm are using their reputation and brewing system to help local up-and-coming breweries leave the locals with a lingering taste of their liquids.

After a successful collaboration with Grasslands Brewing Company, now the Ferm Folks have collaborated with Canopy Roads Brewing Company to bring a preview of their beers and their team. From The Ferm’s Facebook page:

We [had] a ton of fun hanging out with the folks from Canopy Roads Brewing. All of you will be able to enjoy what all of that fun produced. This baby is an American wheat ale (think Blue Moon, without the corporate attachments) with a healthy, yet not overpowering, addition of citra hops to accentuate the citrus notes and highlight the tang of the tea used in creating a perfect summer ale. We will have two versions on tap for your swigging pleasure.

We gave them a barrel (30 gallons) to highlight their recipe – an orange blossom tea wheat. Using locally sourced and produced ingredients; wildflower honey from T’s of Tallahassee and local orange blossom tea from Tomato Cafe and Tea Room in Havana as well as Florida oranges.

We took the remaining 10 gallons and tweaked as only we could..and came up with a rather tasty sidekick. Instead of wildflower honey and oranges, our additions of lemon and gallberry honey really showcase how subtle changes of ingredients can really change a beer (or wine or bourbon or, well, you get the idea).

Come by and meet the Canopy Roads Brewing gang and enjoy both varieties of an amazing beer this Thursday when we open our doors.

Fermentation Lounge is located at 113 All Saints Street in Tallahassee.
