Cigar City Brewing El Dorado Samiam

Four Tampa Bay breweries team up to create beer for Samiam

What is the result when three of Tampa Bay’s finest breweries team up with Slim Pickens Cider and Mead to brew a beer for the band Samiam?  A tasty beer, in this case it is called “El Dorado.”

Cigar City Brewing El Dorado SamiamFrom the Cigar City Newsletter:

A perennial favorite among the Cigar City staff, Berkeley, California’s long-running punk rock band Samiam sees heavy rotation not only around Cigar City but around many other Tampa Bay area breweries. When the opportunity presented itself to brew a beer with Samiam for The Fest in Gainesville and Pre-Fest in Tampa, we knew a few other aging punk rockers (aged, actually) in the Tampa Bay brewing community who would want to be a part of the action.

Along with our friends at Coppertail Brewing Co., Tampa Bay Brewing Company and Slim Pickens Cider and Mead, we developed this recipe with the guys from Samiam in honor of one of our favorite hops and favorite Samiam songs, El Dorado. The hop’s characteristic apricot and pear flavors are supported by a simple malt bill that allow the uniqueness of El Dorado to shine.

Look for Samiam’s El Dorado around Ybor City bars like Crowbar, The Orpheum, The Bricks and Cigar City Cider and Mead during Pre-Fest on October 26th and 27th and at venues throughout Gainesville during The Fest on October 28th, 29th and 30th.

This is the second time that Samiam has teamed up with Tampa Bay’s brewers and cidermakers, the first time was Capsized Cider.

Coppertail Brewing celebrates the release of Independent Pilsner with a special program

Press Release: On Saturday July 16 and Sunday, July 17, Coppertail Brewing Co, the Florida inspired, Tampa brewed, brewery and tap room at 2601 East 2nd Avenue, will celebrate the release of its new Independent Pilsner by offering an Industrial Beer Amnesty Program. Starting at noon, lovers of independent, craft beer are invited to bring in an unopened beer from one of the giant industrial breweries to the Coppertail tap room, and have it swapped out for a fresh, locally brewed 12 oz bottle of Independent Pilsner.

“It’s all about getting those industrial beers out of people’s hands and off the streets so they won’t harm any more taste buds,” explains Kent Bailey, President of Coppertail Brewing Co, who opened the brewery in 2014 in Tampa’s Ybor neighborhood. “Today’s light industrial lagers are less expensive, less flavorful versions of German and Czech Pilsner recipes. We want people to know they have a choice when they’re looking for a beer this summer.”
Coppertail’s Independent Pilsner (5.1 ABV) is a traditional German Pilsner brewed with top quality Pilsen-style malted barley, German Fantasia and TNT hops, and lots of flavor. It features subtle bready notes, a crisp hop character and a clean finish. Most importantly, Independent Pilsner contains absolutely no rice, corn, syrups or other adjuncts. 6-Packs of Independent Pilsner will hit store shelves in the Tampa Bay area next week. Coppertail crafts flavorful beer for the Florida lifestyle. The brewing team, led by Brewmaster Casey Hughes, believes in time-honored, old-world production techniques. They utilize a natural carbonation process, use whole leaf hops and do not filter – because amazing things come to those who wait.

Throughout the weekend, people coming in to trade in their beers will also have the opportunity to sign the “Declaration of the Independent,” declaring their preference for local, independently-owned breweries over giant internationally owned corporations. The Declaration will then hang in the brewery. (Limit 1 can or bottle trade in per day per person. Supplies are limited. 12 oz bottles only available for consumption off premise.)

“These mega-breweries have been buying up small independent breweries all over the country. American consumers are not fooled. You can write America on your beer can, but it doesn’t make your company American,” Bailey explains. “Nothing is more American than Independence. Signers of the declaration are saying that when it comes to the beer you drink, independence matters.”

Coppertail’s Cap’n Jack is having a stone crab boil

Coppertail Brewing realized that they had a great problem when making Cap’n Jack’s Stone Crab Stout. This was a beer whose byproduct, aside from a great stout, was a boatload of stone crabs ripe for the eating. This year, their problem is Tampa’s delight, as they have brought in LoKo Cuisine to serve up some tasty victuals with these quirky crustaceans.

From Coppertail Brewing:

Each year our head brew master Casey brews up a hearty stout called Capt’n Jack’s Stone Crab Stout, named for Jack Davis, the Key West fisherman friend who sources the crabs, and steeps 200 pounds of Florida stone crabs claws in the boil to impart a savory briny note to the beer.

This year we’ve teamed up with LOKO Cuisine to create a stone crab stout boil dinner to celebrate this luscious chocolaty dark stout.

Tickets for this event may be purchased here: http://www.lokocuisine.com/crab-dinner/

Tickets are $50 each and includes : 2.5 pounds of stout boiled and chilled stone crab per person, 3 sides, sauces and your first beer.

To make things even sweeter were tapping 2014 Capt’n Jack’s Stone Crab Stout, Armagnac Barrel Aged Stone Crab Stout and Captain Caliente Stone Crab Stout pepper treatment exclusively for ticket holders.

Coppertail Brewing is located at 2601 East 2nd Avenue in Tampa. The Cap’n Jack Stone Crab Stout Boil will take place on December 10th. The trouble starts at 7:00pm.

SeaDog Brewing Company

Sea Dog Brewery Clearwater has a few surprises on tap this fall

Press Release:

Sea Dog Brewing Co Clearwater’s Master Brewer, Robert Baker, is known for his creative use of food-inspired brew and he’s just announced his Fall line-up. Most recently, his Shipyard Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout was chosen as one of 2015’s Epcot Food & Wine Festival featured drafts, proceeding his Maple Bacon Stout, featured in 2014. With 15 taps open daily, 7 are national brands and 8 are Bobby Brewer exclusives.

A few sweet-inspirations on Bobby Brewer’s tap this Fall include:

Chocolate Cherry Custard Milk Stout: 6.6% ABV | 32 IBUs
Dessert never tasted so good! Full bodied milk stout with strong chocolate and cherries up front with the creaminess of custard on the back. It will satisfy that sweet tooth!

Trick ‘R Treater: 6.7% ABV | 25 IBUs
This Reese’s Peanut Butter Brown Ale has a sweet nose of chocolate and peanut butter upfront, with a creamy body and hint of sweetness on the finish. As a medium body nut brown, it has the right balance of peanut butter and chocolate.

Danube Imperial Brown Ale: 8.1% ABV | 19 IBUs
Named after a Hungarian river, this full-bodied Imperial Brown Ale has been aged on dark Hungarian oak which adds a smooth earthiness. Bold flavors attack the taste buds with chocolate and caramel melding with wood tones. Pinkies up!

“Straight from Compton” Hard Root Beer: 8.0% ABV | 15 IBUs
This mean-mugging ale is perfect in any frosty glass. Flavors of traditional old-fashioned root beer are what you will find. Licorice root, vanilla, brown sugar, and sarsaparilla are flavors that stand out the most. This brew has a nice creamy body as we added lactose back to mix. Don’t let this brew trick you with its easy drinking profile, it will take you out!

Sweet Potato Pie Brown Ale: 4.9% ABV | 22.8 IBUs
This beer has all the flavors of a fresh warm sweet potato pie. Upfront, you catch notes sweet potato, followed by spice. Lastly, it finishes like a warm crust. It is full of flavors yet easy to drink. The dryness of the brown ale balances all the sweet undertones of the sweet potato.
