Angry Chair and Cigar City Brewpub Collaboration

Tampa- Tim Ogden, the brewer who came up with the recipe for Cigar City’s Tocobaga Red Ale, heads up brewing operations at the Cigar City Brewpub on North Dale Mabry. He has shared his brewing abilities and facilities with a few Florida upstart brewers the likes of Cigar City Cider and Mead as well as Gravity Brewlab from Miami.

Next week, Tim is talking about his meeting with Ben Romano from Angry Chair Brewing Company and the beer that will come of this meeting of the minds:

…meeting for the Angry Chair collab we are brewing next week. Banana Cream Pie. Plus a Coconut Banana Cream Pie aged in Bourbon barrels. I hope it doesn’t overattenuate down to 3.14159 degrees plato.

Angry Chair Brewing is working to open a brewery in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa and is still in the process of opening. Their previous collaboration with Cigar City Brewing was a tap takeover during Tampa Bay Beer Week 2013 that introduced Angry Chair’s Berliner Weisses and dessert beers to Tampa Bay.

Saint Petersburg Brewing secures financing

Saint Petersburg- Yesterday Florida got one step closer to adding another microbrewery to its roll.

On May 21st of this year, the Saint Petersburg Brewing Company had posted that they secured financing from the Small Business Administration to help fund their brewery in Saint Petersburg. Yesterday, owner Tom Williams posted: “Our financing is closed our financing this afternoon and look forward to transforming our building to brewery!”

Saint Petersburg Brewing has had their Saint Pete Orange Wheat and Pinellas Pale Ale in the market, but those beers have been contract brewed out of state at Maryland’s Dog Brewing Company. Williams hopes to make these beers locally in Pinellas County. This financing now brings the brewery one step closer to opening, which Williams projects will happen in October of 2013.

Saint Petersburg Brewing Company joins Green Bench Brewing and Cycle Brewing on the path to opening breweries in Saint Petersburg.

Angry Chair Brewing gets wet zoning

Tampa’s brewing future just got a little bit brighter today. Angry Chair Brewing announced late yesterday that their wet zoning was approved by the Tampa City Council. Translation- when the brewery opens in 2013 or early 2014, they will be able to have a tasting room that pours and sells beer. Angry Chair has a location in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa.

No official word on an opening date for Angry Chair, but when the grand opening comes, there can now be a celebration at the brewery.

Cigar City brews with GWAR

It’s not a new ingredient that Cigar City Brewing is using, instead it is a satirical metal band from Virginia that enjoyed a CCB beer and asked for more.

Port Richey Homebrewer and Gwar fan Rob Chalmers brewed a beer for the band, and they liked it so much that they gave him permission to use the band’s logo and imagery, then asked for some more of the beer. Chalmers contacted Cigar City when the band asked for more than he could make, and together Chalmers and brewer Josh Brengle came up with the beer’s current incarnation.

Gwar Impaled Ale will be released at GWAR-B-Q Saturday at the Crow Bar in Ybor City. GWAR themselves will not be present, but a GWAR cover band and several other metal bands will perform and free samples of Impaled ale will be handed out.

Cigar City adds to its army of fermenters

Tampa- Either one of two events is now probable: scenario 1 is that Cigar City Brewing is pressing hard to reach 60,000 barrels of fermentation capacity, or scenario 2 is that the Tampa brewery is breeding an army of robots disguised as fermenters. In either case, the brewery has three new recruits on route to Tampa from Portland.

The three new 120-barrel fermentation vessels are scheduled to arrive on Monday, 5 August 2013, and will assist Cigar City Brewing in keeping up with their thirsty patrons in the Sunshine State.

Cigar City expects to brew around 25,000 barrels of beer in 2013, up from the 17,000 barrels that they brewed in 2012.
