J. Wakefield Brewing signs for distribution

The same Miami brewery who had one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns in the history of CrowdBrewed.com has now chosen a distributor for the Miami market.

According to an email from Gold Coast “J. Wakefield Brewing just announced his distribution deal with our company, Gold Coast Beverage Distributors.”

Who is Gold Coast Beverage? According to their website:

Gold Coast Beverage Distributors has been in operation since 1946 as a beer and water wholesaler. In 1996, Gold Coast Beverage Distributors was purchased by the current owners. While Gold Coast Beverage was originally a Coors-Pabst distributor (along with some imports), the new ownership decided to expand their business almost immediately through several strategic purchases.

The first purchase gave the South Division (Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties) the rights to the Miller portfolio, St. Pauli Girl, Sam Adams, and other beer brands in December 2001. Then, in February 2002, the North Division (Broward County) obtained Miller, Heineken, St. Pauli Girl, and Sam Adams among others. Finally, in June 2008, Gold Coast acquired the Palm Beach County territory, securing the northern rights to much of their existing beer portfolio.

These purchases have allowed Gold Coast Beverage the opportunity to offer the South Florida market a wide range of exceptional beer brands. Led by hard work from a dedicated base of employees passionate about the beer business, the company has nearly doubled in size and case sales over the past 15 years. Gold Coast beverage is now the largest beer distributor in Florida and one of the top 10 in sales in the United States. As a leader in the state of Florida, the company will continue to look for potential growth opportunities for our employees and extended portfolio offerings for our customers.

Wakefield, Cigar City Cider, and Cigar City Brewing host tap takeover

Fresh off the heels of raising over $55,000 in just over a day for his new brewery project in Miami, brewer Johnathan Wakefield is not content to rest on his laurels.

Wakefield has proven himself to be the Where’s Waldo of Florida craft beer, showing up at various locations in the Tampa Bay area with brews and collaborations on his mind, most recently sojourning over in Brewer’s Tasting Room in Saint Petersburg. While brewing with owner Rick Wolfe, J. Wakefield and Cigar City Cider and Mead guru Todd Strauss worked out details for the mother of Tampa events: an opportunity to showcase Wakefield’s beers alongside Cigar City Cider and Cigar City Brewing in the Tampa Bay area.

From these creative minds, The Panic Attack Tap Takeover was born.

This event will feature some of the beers that Wakefield has brewed with Rick Wolfe at Brewers’ Tasting Room, including a hefeweizen, a berliner weisse, and a porter (no word yet if these will be similar to any of Wakefield’s future core beers).

Cigar City Cider and Mead and Cigar City Brewing will also have brewed with Brewers’ Tasting Room and their beers will be released on the same night.

The Panic Attack Tap Takeover will happen Friday, October 4th at Brewers’ Tasting Room, located 11270 4th Street North in Saint Petersburg, 33716. Their phone number is (727)873-3900. Look for exclusive beers, witty banter, and sparkling conversation from all three breweries at this event.

About Brewers’ Tasting Room:

Brewers’ Tasting Room opened in January of 2013 with a mission to provide the Saint Petersburg area with a unique concept of one-of-a-kind beer and food. To do this, Brewers’ Tasting Room opens its small commercial brewing system to brewers selected to come in and brew limited beers with owner and brewer Rick Wolfe. BTR then puts those limited local beers on tap only in the tasting room for locals to enjoy the freshest creative beer possible. For more information, see BTR’s website.
