J. Wakefield Brewing to begin brewing this week

Johnathan Wakefield, Miami’s lauded homebrewer and new brewery owner, recently got in touch with supporters of his CrowdBrewed campaign to update them on the progress of J. Wakefield Brewing Company, or JWB. The highlights of the newsletter are:

*JWB should begin brewing on their commercial system at the end of this week.
*South Florida is still in dragon fruit season, so DFPF should be brewable for opening day.
*Construction has taken more money and time than anticipated.
*Tentative soft opening date is anticipated in December.
*No solid grand opening date has been announced just yet.

This is great news, as Mr. Wakefield hopes to join the ranks of Miami’s craft brewing community before 2014 comes to a close.

Wynwood Brewing announces next bottle release

Press Release:

The Wynwood Brewing Company announced the special release of its second beer bottle – San Francisco – a Belgian Golden Strong Ale aged in bourbon barrels for the past six months. The limited release of only 400 bottles is part of the Shipwreck Series which the brewery started with El Infante during their first anniversary celebration in August 2014. The special release will be at the WBCo. Tap Room on Wednesday, November 5 at 6 pm. The cost of the bottle is $20 and there is a limit of two per person. The brewery and the tap room are located at 565 NW 24th Street, Miami, FL.

The “San Francisco” beer originates with the WBCo.’s Father Francisco aged for almost six months in bourbon barrels. This Belgian Golden Strong Ale has acquired wonderful notes of bourbon, vanilla, cream, and a nice hint of charred wooden smokey-goodness. The artwork for the bottle was exclusively done for WBCo. by renowned Miami street artist Claudio Picasso – CP1.

Wynwood Brewing Company’s exclusive Shipwreck Series are named after famous Spanish galleons shipwrecked off the Florida coast. The “San Francisco” is one of the most beautiful ship wrecks from the 1730’s because of its location in less than 6 feet of water off Long Key Florida.

J. Wakefield Brewery to open in October

He has worked and poured, poured and worked, and now Miami’s own Jonathan Wakefield says that the brewery should open in October of 2014.

According to an article posted by the Miami New Times, Wakefield has told them that he will be open after enough time to gather enough beer:

“We are in our last leg of the completion process,” Wakefield says. “We’ll start brewing at the end of the month. We need about a month to stockpile some wares before I open the tasting room. We’ll have the grand opening in October.”

Wakefield Brewing is located in the Wynwood area of Miami and upon opening Wakefield will be the third brewery to begin production in Wynwood, behind Wynwood’s eponymous brewery and Concrete Beach Brewing Company.
