Tallahassee’s Deep Brewing Company has been no stranger to statewide awards stages, but this is the first time the brewery says they have earned national recognition.
From Deep Brewing Company:
We are happy to announce that not one, but TWO Deep Brewing beers – SPEAR PRESSURE British-Style Golden Ale and BELOW ME West Coast Double IPA – both won GOLD MEDALS in the recent 2024 World Beer Championships, the oldest beer competition in America founded by the Beverage Testing Institute in 1994.
The news was music to Deep head brewer and founder Ryan LaPete’s ears, especially because this was the first time he’d ever entered Deep Brewing beers in the World Beer Championships“Really proud of our entire team here at Deep, and we’re excited that these two beers – one flagship, and one that’s a fairly new recipe – both earned such high marks from the judges,” Ryan said. “We’ve won ‘Best Beer’ and ‘Best Brewery’ honors at beerfests before and have done well over the years with multiple medals in the Best Florida Beer competition … but when you look down the list of breweries that have won gold in this event in the past – places like Tree House, Toppling Goliath, Boulevard, Russian River, Maine Beer Company and Trillium, just to name a few – these awards hit just a little bit differently when you’re now mentioned among renowned national breweries such as these.”The Gold Medal graphics you see below aren’t ones we made either – those came straight from the BTI, which had this to say about each beer:BELOW ME: “Dank City on this bolder American IPA. West Coast reigns forever so embrace your bitter bud.”SPEAR PRESSURE: “Tons of apple notes make for an extremely drinkable pub ale; a friendly English Ale if there ever was one.”Gotta love those reviews!BELOW ME checks in at 8% and is an extra-pale West Coast IIPA brewed with Nectaron and Mosaic Hops. And the beer is so new, it only has 67 TOTAL Untappd check-ins! (But we bet there will be a few more after this.)SPEAR PRESSURE, meanwhile, clocks in at a much more crushable 4.5% and is our refreshing interpretation of a British-style Golden Ale. SPEAR PRESSURE is Deep’s flagship ale brewed with a solid base of malted English barley and generous dosing of the finest Kent Goldings hops, giving you notes of oasted biscuits with a hint of wildflower honey. So how are we going to celebrate this big win, you ask? Well, with a GOLD MEDAL WEEKEND event in 2 weeks! That’s how! We’ll be rolling out fresh cans AND draft of both gold medal-winning beers on Friday, Feb. 23, and toast these two all weekend long with multiple food trucks (Heluva Sub, Rufus dogs of Tallahassee, Siri-ously Thai & Rich Rob’s Philly Stop) and even our first raw and grilled oyster pop-up from our friends and longtime customers at Forgotten Bay Oysters on Saturday, Feb. 24th.Thanks to all of our customers for all of your support, encouragement and feedback on our beers over the years. It’s because of YOU that we continue to strive for excellence with every batch we brew. And we appreciate y’all helping us to keep getting better and better at our “craft!”
Cheers, Tallahassee!

????? ??? ????? ???? ????????????? & ???????? ??????? ?????????:
The World Beer Championships (WBC) was founded by the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) in 1994 as the first international beer competition in the United States. The WBC uses BTI’s methodology and points-to-medals system.
Two years ago, based on input from the brewing community, BTI decided to change the medal protocol of the Word Beer Championships to an Olympic-style competition where there would be only one Gold, Silver, and Bronze World Beer Championships Medal awarded for each beer category.
BTI assigns medals based on points earned, which translate to an absolute quality evaluation for an individual product on its own, and World Beer Championships Olympic-style medals based on the rankings of products within a given category, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.
The BTI began operations in 1981 as the first international wine competition in the United States, adding beer, spirits, cider, sake, mead and more to the repertoire in 1994. Using industry-leading methodology co-developed by founder Craig Goldwyn and Dr. Harry Lawless of Cornell University and a one-of-a-kind approach to trade focus groups and sensory panelist recruitment, BTI’s evaluations are so much more than a competition. Beverage Testing Institute has become the most comprehensive and reliable source for alcohol beverage product testing and professional reviews in the world.
